To do that, I have to be able to think like an attacker - as otherwise someone with different intentions will.

Re: But Some Woman Called Me a Creep Once! I still don't get how "You guys really should leave these comments with your real names, so women who foolishly consider dates with you can google you, realize it's not going to go well, and call it off." becomes "zomg authoritarian feminazis want to ban pseudonyms". But uh yeah, keep railing against your strawfeminist bogeywomen :/

Re: But Some Woman Called Me a Creep Once! She suggested that people post under their real names so that their douchebaggery be findablee. If assholes self-identified, the world would be a better place as non-assholes would be able to avoid them.

Re: But Some Woman Called Me a Creep Once! You say that "Just because someone gets offended doesn’t mean they have the right to shut someone else down" - define shutting down. It sure as hell is within the "offendee's" rights to call the "offender" out on their actions.

Go ahead and keep clutching those pearls though.

Re: Harassment vs. Offense

My how this conversation sounds familiar... http://infotrope.net/2009/0...

Re: NYT-“MEN invented the internet”

Nothing new about this particular front :(

Re: Everyone Has A Voice When It Comes To Tech And Sexism [VIDEO]

I'm disappointed by this comment, Steve. I would have thought you'd know better by now.

Do you really think that the discomfort of being called out about sexism is as bad as that of being in a minority which has just experienced being the target of bigotry? Cry me a river. Of those two, the former was uncomfortable because of their own misbehavior, whereas the latter was because they existed.

Re: Why the Arduino Won and Why It’s Here to Stay

It's not the "easy way out". It even has a pointer in there somewhere, hehe.

I learned how to use Eagle a few weeks ago at a class run by the hackerspace I'm involved with. Still haven't run into a project that a boarduino wasn't the right cheapie solution for, but I'm sure that too will come with time.

And I'm definitely not alone on this path. Arduino is totally a gateway drug :)

Re: http://demosthenes.tumblr.com/post/1231433849

gorgeous stuff. inspiring!

Re: Proposed Ubuntu 10.10 installer changes will make installation fast, friendly

I'd like it to be dad-proof too, please :)

Re: Shaker Help Request

my recollection from loooong ago is that the Joy of Sex is pretty traditional and heteronormative. nthing the recommendation for the "good vibes guide to sex".

is there an equivalent to "our bodies, ourselves" for the dudes? if so, that would be a good one to provide as well :)

Re: Sexism and the religion of hackers

Hey mubix,

I'll have a better go at summarizing what we discussed on IRC once I've had some sleep, but I just wanted to share that the Sapheads have issued a statement and apology:

http://hackerschool.org/Def...

Apparently Tiffany's their binary analyst, which is good to hear - I look forward to reading the rest of the comics without having my teeth set on edge :)

-Leigh
