Now it's in my actual syllabi "I prefer to be addressed as Professor Pacheco-Vega or Dr. Pacheco-Vega. It's not Raul, and it's MOST DEFINITELY NOT {HEY!}".

Re: Countdown to ISA: heal the world, make the ISA a better place

I second the suggestion of coffee in the AM panels, more/better choices of panels. Toronto in March is NOT warm, so dress appropriately. We don't do Starbucks as much, learn to love Tim Hortons. And for the love of God, ISA attendees, DO NOT BRING UP ROB FORD, okay?

Re: An American Association of Geographers?

Ugh. I'm a member, have been for a long while, and it wasn't until this happened that I realized I have never called the AAG the Association of American Geographers. I also maintain membership in the Canadian Association of Geographers, and everybody asks "are you going to AAG or CAG", not the full acronym. So, kudos for changing the name to a more inclusive one. Signed, someone who studies North America as a region and is tired of everyone forgetting that America

Re: Fetishizing Fieldwork on the Road to Essentialism

Great piece, Jason. I'm not an anthropologist but I strongly respect the work of environmental anthropologists (anthros in general, but environmental anthropologists have really made me turn my conceptual frameworks upside down).

I do, however, privilege fieldwork. I believe that there is unique insight to be gained from going deep into the field, observing phenomena, tracing the processes and understanding populations. I may be doing this mixed-methods thing wrong :-)

Re: We’re Moving to Mexico!

Tim, contact me for stuff to do in Guanajuato (I assume you-re moving to Guanajuato the city?). Heck, this post is a post (you didn't do it on video, did you?)

You forget # 1 - be explicit about why you need the funding and # 2 - be explicit about how much you need per person (i.e. how spread your crowdfunding effort is - is the network 100 people wide or 100,000 people wide - do you need 40 dollars per person or 4?)

The title of your post would better reflect the content if you mentioned it's primarily focused on crowdfunding. From a first glance it looks like it's a catch-all blanket post for earning trust online in every circumstance.

My two cents :)

Re: Crowdsourcing Application to Stay Cool in Vancouver

This is a great idea, David (and Tim). Kudos for the implementation. Two things:

1) It'd also be good to map out the existing fountains which don't work. I sent you a tweet informing you of a water fountain on 3rd and Commercial. Ooops. It's not working :(

2) I'd be delighted to tie this with the ongoing conversation and my upcoming research project on the cultural perceptions of drinking water in the Lower Mainland. One of the points my readers have made was the apparent lack of drinking water fountains in Vancouver. Your tool helps dispel this myth.

Re: Blogathon Debrief

Dude, you totally forgot the link to WP-Footnotes.
