I'm closed-minded because I believe that if someone is going to live in another country, they should learn the language of that country? According to your logic, I should be able to go into any country and demand that they speak English, because they should cater and bend over backwards for me because i do not know their language. Is that right? What if i only spoke Chinese? Are you telling me that you'd be able to communicate with me? Or is it that you believe immigrants who only speak Spanish do not need to learn English? If immigrants who speak other languages learn English, then why can't we or why shouldn't we hold Spanish speakers to the same standard? Face it, English is the language you must know if you wish to thrive in this country. English is the international language of business. If you want to fly a plane, you must know English. So how can you say it's perfectly fine not to learn English, when you are living in an English speaking country? Immigrants for many, many years have learned English, so why now do we have to make an exception for a certain group? One other thing, I have never once said that Americans shouldn't learn other languages, so don't go Obama on me and start making things up. If an English speaking American wants to learn another language, great, I'm all for it and i wish them the best of luck but I do believe it should be their choice. I also believe that immigrants should embrace the language of whatever country it is that they choose to live in, and it just so happens that in this country the majority speak English.

Re: McCain displays ‘rude’ mannerisms in presidential debate

So when Obama interrupts, when Obama is rude, it's ok? How about when Obama flat out lies? Is that ok? So succeeding in Iraq is failed policy? I guess you think we should lose then? You say Obama has a plan? I guess if you call socialism a plan, if you call trying to running the United States of America into the ground, then yeah, he definitely has a plan. Not a very good plan, but a plan. I'm not saying Republicans are the greatest thing on Earth, because they are not, but a socialist will do far more damage to our country. About Bush, I'd much rather have him for another term, than give Jimmy Carter a second term.

Re: Learning Spanish becomes vital in community relations

It is completely absurd to say that Americans should learn a different language because a certain group of immigrants refuse to learn or speak English. There are more English speaking Americans than non-English speaking Americans, so if you play the numbers game, it's a lot easier to teach a smaller group than a larger group. Also, according to your philosophy, shouldn't every American learn every language that there is in this world, because isn't it unfair to expect every immigrant who speaks a language other than Spanish to learn English and I guess(according to you), Spanish? If i was going to live in another country I'd learn their language, because how else would i be able to thrive in their country? English is what the majority speaks here and we should expect those that come to this country to learn our language, not the other way around. I'm not against learning other languages, but to thrive in this country you must speak English, so English should be stressed not Spanish.
