Put your devices in your pockets and take a look at the gentrification that is destroying the fabric of that community. Next step, the Cornish School will be sold, raized and more condos will come in to house Amazon workers, who came to this locale for it's eclectic mix. Is that a catch 22 or WHAT?

Re: Bernina Versus Pfaff – The Great Sewing Machine Debate!

Dan, I have two older Pfaff machines that are getting pretty tired. A couple of days ago, I went and looked at the Bernina 730, which is a lovely machine. My local dealer has it priced at 4199, which is pretty fair from what I can find on-line. My problem is that I am "hooked" on Pfaff machines. I could use your knowledge and help to identify a higher end Pfaff machine that was made before the hostile takeover that I could look for on the used market. Thanks for your help. I cannot speak for them. They need to talk with you personally and assess your situation.

Having worked with them, I know they support "Neighborhood Cat" management first to ensure the survivability of the cats. The cats know their neighborhoods, and we are here to teach people how to keep cats from being nuisances and to turn them into solid, productive neighborhood rodent managers. Alternative methods always involve a mortality rate and are always considered last, based on the worst of circumstances.

Sincerely,

Barb Horton

Re: Man versus kitty cats - Covington Reporter

Warning. I thought the author was trying to be funny, but decided that he's actually unmotivated and uneducated. His rather sordid approach offers me a chance to comment with some solid facts that need to be communicated to the community.

There are a few "facts" in his letter I can't verify. I am a long-time volunteer for King County Care and Control. I know for a fact that they don't "rent" traps. They have two expensive, high quality feral cat traps that I asked them to purchase because the cheap spring traps (Havahart and Tomahawk) break legs and tails. Their spring action is strong enough to kill a kitten that toddles into the trap behind its mother. These traps never leave the shelter.

I specialize in providing assistance to the County and its Citizens to manage Feral and free roaming cats. We are blessed with several well known volunteers in this community who provide more general support to people who have problems with large colonies of cats. If this person had done due diligence, he would have done some searching on the internet. Also, if he had done as he said he did and paid a visit to King County Care and Control Shelters in either Kent or Crossroads, he would have automatically been re-directed to me for assistance.

The County doesn't have the money to provide services to the feral populations, but dozens of volunteers have a passion for this work. Typically, we trap/neuter and return the neighborhood cats and teach people how to co-exist with them. Other than me (I only work through King County), there are two high quality local non-profit organizations available to help; South County Cats in Maple Valley: http://www.petfinder.com/sh... and Feral Cat Assistance and Trapping: 206-427-6454. South County Cats and FCATS have been front page news in Reporter Newspapers in the past, so the lack of knowledge in this letter tells me the author doesn't read his own newspapers either.

I personally have done quite a bit of TNR in the Kent/Covington/Maple Valley area, so I know there are people who live here who have computers and look for positive answers to a problem created by heartless humans. Please put your guns away and pick up the phone.

Sincerely,

Barb Horton
Puget Sound Working Cats
206-819-4261
