are you still allowed to be on waiting list for neighborhood school?
Is he in kindergarten?
It isn't a matter of the new plan, but class capacity. If you are enrolled in one school, you basically stay there. Openings sometimes occur after the end of the semester - most parents are hesitant to move children year - it takes some doing to transfer, but it can be done

A shelter proposal is not happening here.
A solution for the homelessness social problem you mention.
Homelessness is a lack of housing.
This in not even a discussion of transitional housing with support services on site.
The proposal is for a 7 story building with 80 units of permanent housing.

there are events tonight as every Friday in the hood.
Some problems can't be solved with yet another fundraiser.

Take a walk around the park now, as the structures remain. I have always found it interesting that a 7th Day Activist Sect had a commune in "my own back yard" - though most had passed on by the time we arrived. These people lived a simple life, and planted fruit trees and vegetable gardens. But as happens with celebate sects, their system of belief died along with the last of "em.
Remember that this planning of a park is an on-going process. The city leaves most planning to the "Friends of 9th Avenue Park" - meetings are open to all, even permaculture training buffs.

Oops - I am sorry - such leaps of faith from congrats Mr Brockman to Indians complaining about American accents in the global economy. I was surprised to such an extent that I din't realize that my fingers were moving.

The objection I have to squatting is that it is done so timidly.....tents in places that no one else seems to be using, quasi public land. I hate it when they use public parks. When will there be good old fashioned punk style squatting like in London in the '70's and '80's. A good squat is the takeover of private property........

And so the point of all this is that a house is 4 walls and a roof.....do what you wish - that is the beauty of a free market....there are many variables. Regret, but don't be surprised by the consequenses of your own actions. And if others used a sort of a shell game illusion in order to create short term profit - be smart and act with wisdom.
