So your above use-case would become supporter.andand.politician.andand.campaign.  If supporter or politician were nil, the entire expression would be nil.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;swallow_nil reminds me of 'rescue nil' in that it will silently traps typos, which is a big problem.
