OK, so I'm late getting in on this one, but you seriously can't completely disregard A-Rod from the picture. Sure he needs more time, but am I the only one who finds Jeter kind of "streaky"? I mean, he's like bacon when it comes to hits and even more so on the defensive side. I know I'm just a Canadian, but we know our bacon, and it ain't "streaky". C'mon Jeter! either step up and stay up or step down and "in it".

Amazing. you just don't see that kind of thing on live TV anymore. At least not that I've seen. I don't think anyone has the balls to do something that long and consistently funny. It'll be a long time before we see another Charlie Callas.

This is great. Really.

Is this the very beginning? It's captivating, fast-paced, and down right friggin' addictive. I'm loving it so far. Of course, you know this means that you will now have us clamouring for more.

One thing about your writing...... I've always admired your ability to write dialogue. You remind me a lot of Elmore Leonard, with his quick pace, and his rapid fire dialogue. And also (whether you realize this or not) your writing follows one of his great quotes about writing, "When I'm writing a story, I just leave out the boring bits."

Classic! We're all waiting for more....

If Glenn Beck really wants to 'whip it out' - he would be the guy with the short stack of buttons..... Stephen King's overall sales numbers make Beck's look like a pimple on the arse of Bill O'Reilly. Since 2003 (when he started publishing) he has sold 5 Million books in the US. Mr. King??? Well, let's just say that he's quite a bit higher.....(between 300 & 350 million). So where does Beck get off thinking he's outselling Mr. King????

Also - good call Andrew, why is he always releasing at the same time as King?

What really gets me, is that in the clip above - neither of them had anything intelligent or pertinent to say, other than talking about 'singing khumbaya'.

It definitely sounds like one of those, "I need a vacation after my vacation" type of situations. Is there still time to work on the new book amongst all of that? Even though it's very busy, it still seems like a a pretty good time.

I think you'll be glad to get back to work after all that..... just for a rest.

Also - how do you think the 'Sawx' will do against the Yanks? Any chance? They've only beat the Yanks 3 times this year out of 8 games.... could be an interesting series!

I only just saw this, I've been away from the blog for a few days.

What the hell? Why do they do that? Why start a conversation with you if they weren't going to do it at all? Couldn't they have figured that out from reading the book? It really chaps my ass when people do that! Why, why why?

Does it make them feel big and stong? WTF??? Is this REALLY how the TV biz is?

(I just wanted to say, I don't think they made the best choice in the end.....)

Bill -

Your gift has always been your words. You have shown here how you can use them in the most giving and personal ways. I would like to remind you, and tell everyone here, how your words came to mean so much to me as I was coming up to my own hip replacement surgery only 1 year ago. For a guy who had only just had his 36th birthday, this was the most worrying and scary time of my life. You, who had never met me in person (and still hasn’t; hopefully it will happen someday… ☺) gave me so much comfort and support.

As a result of the advice and words you gave me, I went into the surgery with some degree of comfort and ease. When I came out of surgery I was in the worst god-damn pain I have ever known, a mistake in my pain relief dosing left me feeling as if I had been given no pain relief at all - literally.

Now, a year later, I have been told that I am suffering from chronic pain syndrome, for which there is no cure. Furthermore, I was told that I would be disabled for life and always be using my cane. Now, in the past couple of weeks, I have been told that in order to return to work, I will need to use some form of assistance, such as a drivable scooter. This is because the university where I teach has long halls and many floors. I can’t wait for that….

Anyway, I digress. What I wanted to add to this conversation is that your words of support a year ago still ring true to me now, even amongst the seemingly never ending bad news. Those words coming from someone who I’d never met were so amazing that I can’t tell you how much it helped. I had the support from my wife and family, but this was an amazing gift of support from somewhere very unexpected.

I truly hope that you continue to be in great health and I want to thank you again for everything. Here’s to titanium-embedded folks everywhere!

I agree with you Cathy! I think that once we have experienced any story at all, we are bound to feel that the second experience of the same story has somewhat of a diminished return, simply because we saw/read it second.

Also - I agree with your second point, that we should judge them in the order of book before movie. After all, any story written in novel form was written FOR novel form, that's why I think that movie versions of novels tend to suck, just look at Stephen King. Most of the movies adapted from his work are shit. (Yes, I know you are all screaming about Shawshank, Stand By Me, Misery etc...., but just think of all the other ones that have sucked, so much so that you've probably totally forgotten about them.)

Anyway, I just wanted to agree with Cathy....that's all.

That really is some great insight to someone who isn't involved in the business of getting a book into film. Having said that, I must say that I really did see the "movie in my head" as I read Everything Hurts. It just came across that way. At the time, I had just thought that came through because you spent so much time writing for the TV screen.

In any case, I agree with Toast when he says that good things come to those who wait. But I can also relate to your last line....I too, would love to be in that assisted living facility!!!

I also love your approach of just waiting and seeing. It seems to me that there really is no other way to deal with this process without totally losing your shit! If it's meant to happen, it will happen. It would certainly make a great film, it's seems like it's just a matter of getting the right people at the right time.

It'll happen....we're all here pulling for you!

That sounds great!!!

I think that EH lends itself very well to "something episodic". You've created such great characters, and that makes it so much easier to stretch it out into something.

By the way - I don't think I've heard all about your "film career" from Ringer. So go ahead and treat us.
