When you are thinking about water for folks who can not pay for their water bills, I would like you to take a look at work done by Delhi government towards lifeline water. Water upto 20kL/mo is free and you pay when your usage exceeds 20kL. I find this brilliant because it ensures that folks dont waste water for the fear of exceeding 20kL. At the same time, folks who can afford dont get the subsidy. I wish water utilities around the world would adopt this as a business model with some support from their govts. What do you think?

US is/was a friend of Pakistan and Pakistani people. Pakistan allows its citizens to hold rallies to denounce US & its policies as the worst enemy of Pakistan & Pakistani people.

India is/was not a friend of Pakistan and Pakistani people. Pakistan allows its citizens to hold rallies to denounce India & its policies as the worst enemy of Pakistan & Pakistani people.

China is already/becoming a friend of Pakistan. Chinese govt is anti-religion. There is documented evidence of Chinese treatment of Muslims. There were some protests against this. These protests were quickly shut down. Now no one holds rallies against China and Chinese people. Now one is collecting money to help Muslims in China.

If you see the unstated in above, there seems to be state patronage for whom the Pakistani citizens are protesting against. To say that Mr. Hafiz Sayeed has no state patronage is a white lie.

I have one simple request to anyone who determines if a terrorist is a good terrorist (i.e. should continue to operate on Pakistani soil) or bad terrorist (i.e. should be terminated). Please close your eyes for one minute and think the massacre of Army Public School happening AGAIN and right now. Look over those pictures of blood stained rooms, of dead children, of broken parents, of horrified nation in your mind's eyes. If tears dont flow down your eyes then you either you did not imagine properly or probably someone else should be making these decisions. Now imagine that your decision will decide if Army Public School massacre would be repeated. You will come to the right decision.

Selective amnesia of the editors of these papers is shocking.

When you talk of Musharraf, Vajpayee and peace process, how can you not talk about Kargil. The initial narrative was that Kargil was conducted by non state actors from the Pakistani side of LoC. Pakistan even denied Army ID cards recovered from some of the dead soldiers and refused to claim their bodies. Pakistan refused to let Indian Army cross LoC even if it was only to flush out these "non state actors". Only a few years later Pakistan recognized the dead soldiers in the Kargil conflict and gave them medals.

It is this hypocricy which demonises Pakistan. Stop the victim mentality and start asking some tough questions from your govt.

Using www.timer-tab.com on Google Chrome on my system in dual screen config. One screen just shows the timers. Worked great. I am much more relaxed and not exhausted even after working the whole day

Like you I am also obsessed about keeping a meticulous record. However, there is a slight difference. The record is for me at this point of time and not for the whole world - so its not up on the web. Also, I have spent several days of my life arranging and rearranging them in one order or another.
Another thing I have discovered is that it gives me peace if I know that they are filed properly. So now, after so many years, I have developed a personal filing system and a process. Since labor in India is so cheap, I have simply outsourced the task of filing, but the process is mine.

A few things stand out here for me:
1. As the great @fredwilson said, choose the name and inject your brand in it: http://bit.ly/kTXfob, I guess this would be a great example to show that the value of brand in an internet business is very different than in traditional businesses.2. I think the value for the investors come from the fact that due to transparency they can quantify profits and losses from each business separately and accordingly value them at different multiples. Reminds me of New England Wires and Cables in that 1991 movie: Other People's money.3. If 2 is true, we can also argue that listing Qwikster separately may unlock more shareholder value than the current structure. See GE for example: most of the time conglomerate is valued at lesser than the sum of its parts. Actually the way Reeds is structuring as per his blog post, I see this move as a precursor of selling off the DVD business.

Amazing. Please add cap table to the list of P&L, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow Statement. Several times entrepreneurs do not understand how the cap table evolves as the startup goes from one financing event to another.

Great post Rubin. I am intrigued by the fact that babies smile naturally. They are not smiling at you but their beautiful smiles are a reaction to happiness they are feeling. Somewhere between childhood and adulthood, we seem to loose our natural tendency to smile. I wish I knew more....
