I think you must be right about the meaning of Harsh in another language. One of my friends dated a guy named Harsh and all I knew is that his family immigrated to the US from a country in the middle east (not sure which...he just said "the middle east" to me).

You are right on--this is the grooviest way to handle Valentines Day. My husband and I were in college & had been dating exactly 2 weeks when our first VDay rolled around, so we celebrated with 40s and a movie at my place. The next year I was in grad school and we were poor, so we reprised. Now we've made it our tradition to buy 40s, watch Netflix, and (drumroll...) have a pizza! That we make ourselves! And I also make cookies for coworkers in a division of my office that I want to say a special thanks to. A roadmap to Valentines Day happiness.

Crazy coincidences...I was just looking at videos for ballet brushing up on Amazon this morn. The last time I did a class I thought I was going to die, so I figured it would be a good idea to work a little at home first!

Love this...after reading some similar dissections of the tendency to praise without much thought (might have been through Mothering magazine? can't remember), I changed the way I "praised" my niece and nephew, and it has been a wonderful experience. Now when they make a drawing for me, or do well/poorly in a soccer game, in school, etc. instead of just saying "That's so pretty! You're so creative! You made the best goal! You're so smart!" and so forth, it's so much fun to talk with them about it, draw out aspects of the object/experience that they can tell me more about, ask them questions about the choices they were making and hear them explore and evaluate their own thought processes and experiences through the answers.

It has been scary! A little over 24 hours in the animal hospital, and the 24 hours since he came back home have been terrible and uncertain and full of tears in the washroom at work. But tonight, after a lot of effort, we think he has finally turned the corner. Oof--I kind of want to never leave the house again.

I know! I was pretty much there for the amount of time it took me to sleep that night, though, breaking up the trip from Baltimore to Point.

Because the bunny I was sitting for didn't have a gigantic cage, I just draped a sheet over about a third of it so that he could feel like he was retreating into a cave-like area if he wanted. During the day he was out of his cage and would spend about 1/3 of his time sleeping/hiding under the recliner. The other 2/3 of the time, he'd go to the bunny playmat--a section of the floor next to his cage with old towels/pillowcases on it. Sat a cardboard box, paper bag, plastic bin of timothy hay, some newspaper (both sheets and crumpled balls), toilet paper tube stuffed with hay, a flannel shirt cut into small squares, and a magazine on & around the perimeter. Seemed to really like it--spent a lot of time there. I ended up tearing the glue seam off the magazine and clipping the pages together with a binder clip because he seemed to be chewing on the glue side a lot. The magazine was still his favorite toy.

My mom said this to her friend about my dad when she saw him through a crowd at a football game in college, before she ever even talked to him. They do not have an awesome relationship now--could be payback for her knee-jerk proprietary reaction.
