The movie was great, Elsie Fisher was amazing, BUT ... I don't buy for a single second that she went all the way through middle school without having a single friend. I have a son who just finished middle school and he agreed. So, that fully distracted me as we went through the movie. There's always a "losers club" of some kind at every school. No one navigates those years in a total vacuum.

I just loved "Blade Runner 2049" and had no problems with the length. I was ready to watch it again right away (if Roger Deakins doesn't win the Best Cinematography Oscar then there is no God). Having just taken my 13yo son to see the original on that limited theatrical showing in October, I was reminded at how slow that film is. It almost felt longer than the sequel. As important as the film is in the sci-fi movie canon and as much as it's needed to, obviously, set up the sequel, I'll be adding 'BR 2049' to my Blu-Ray collection when it comes out; a collection that doesn't include the original.

I remember reading a review of "Night of the Living Dead" - which turned out to be written by Roger Ebert - that was less than kind and made me definitely not want to see the film (although I was too young at the time to have seen it anyway). But, when "Dawn of the Dead" came out and I read about it - was it in "Fangoria" magazine? - I made my way alone to a theater and the movie blew my mind, and upset my stomach. It was definitely my first experience with that level of gore that
we now see pretty much every week on The Walking Dead. I bought the tie-in novel but there was no
wearable merchandise that I could find so I had an airbrush artist make a t-shirt for me of the poster art on the front and the name of the film in big black felt letters on the back. A year or so later, a theater in town began to show it as a Saturday night midnight film, a la "The Rocky Horror Picture Show". I used to wear the shirt to those screenings where we would wait to see how many people left the theater
in the first ten minutes of the movie due to the gore.

"Shaun of the Dead" blew my mind in a similar - but decidedly more comedic - way. A friend had a tape of it before it came out in the U.S. and told me I absolutely had to see it. As a huge fan of British comedy AND zombie films, I fell head over heels in love with that film and Edgar, Simon and Nick. That led me to "Spaced" which I got on Region 2 DVD (and had to buy a DVD player that I hacked to ignore the region code on so I could watch it) which made me fall even more in love with those geek geniuses. Then followed rest of the Cornetto trilogy, "Scott Pilgrim" (the first blue-ray DVD I ever bought) and, now, "Baby Driver".

So, knowing that George Romero essentially gave birth to Edgar's career (at least in the current timeline), that makes me even more appreciative of the work and genre he created. RIP, Mr. Romero.

There were some close calls in these shots, for sure, but Brandon killed it with most of his shots. Derrick's shot in scenario 3 is my overall favorite though. Such a lovely shot. These posts and videos are just great. Can't wait for the next one!

That's the way I always went when I lived there, even just to take friends up just past the gate to get a photo without hiking all the way up. Apparently things with the locals have gotten much worse since I left ten years ago. I learned this exact route from some map I bought back in 1994 so that's the only way I knew how to get there.

I think that any stout comparisons need to include an IBU rating, which for me is much more important than the ABV. I seriously hate hops and anything over 35 starts to ruin a beer for me, although this is much more hard to pinpoint with stouts. Living in Beervana/Portland, Oregon, it's hard to get away from the hop heads and while I like to drink local, there are definitely a few on this list I want to try.

Man, it's hard not to add fuel to this fire but, seriously, this person had it coming to them in almost every way. I think this is the universe telling this woman to find another profession. Every single bit of this is irresponsible at every level and I would absolutely be suing her if I was a client who lost photos due to her negligence.

While they did a good job dropping the red herring in the opening of this episode by showing the recap with Benjen from Season 1, I thought it was totally unnecessary and they could have just as easily run in and said that Sam had been attacked and was dying and Jon would have still run out. Throwing it back that far to Season 1 was a weird choice, I thought.

Oh, God ... Doogal is just wretched. In spite of a voice cast that includes Dame Judy Dench, Ian McKellan, William H. Macy, Whoopi Goldberg, Chevy Chase, Kevin Smith, Bill Hader AND Jon Stewart ... oh, and Jimmy Fallon, it is so, so, SO awful.

I seriously need to play Imperial Settlers, Abyss and Star Realms this year. And Doomtown Reloaded and Red7 are on my list, too. It's so hard to keep up with all the new games while still trying to catch up playing older games for the first time (hell, I just played Settlers of Catan for the very first time last year!), in addition to just playing games I own and or like! And you seriously need to play King of New York if you liked KoT at all. Lots more to destroy!

Such a great post. As I have delved into the new world of board games over the last two years, and amassed a small collection of great games, my biggest problem is almost never having the opportunity to play them with the exception of one weekly meetup. Hoping to expand my network of gamers in the new year for more gaming sessions and the chance to introduce more people to all of these games, and try more new ones!

Great article but one correction, if I may. Carrie made her feature film debut in the independent film, "Some Days Are Better Than Others" that came out about three years ago. It also had James Mercer of The Shins and Corin Tucker had a small part in it. So, there you go.

Well, I haven't read past "Storm of Swords" but here's what I'm predicting. The scene with the Maester "saving" The Mountain and telling Cersei that he "won't be the same" sets up the reveal of Lady Stoneheart. Then, LS will meet up with Brienne and punish her for finding Arya but then losing her and/or not finding Sansa. Something like that. I'm actually kind of looking forward to not knowing what's going to happen in the show coming up, although they're definitely altering the source material more and more anyway.
