Saw this via @Jas and must say I'm incredibly honoured & flattered that you think so. This isn't false modesty but I'm not sure I do deserve to rank in the top 100 in the UK. Certainly for northern England, we've made an impact via Codeworks & Thinking Digital which is exactly what our mission is all about. I'm very happy that good folk like yourself see this and feel what we've achieved is noteworthy. We'll keep fighting the good fight! Perhaps the greatest compliment that Wired UK could have paid me though is that we've got 5 Wired UK staff & contributors attending Thinking Digital 2010 in May! I'll take that over inclusion on their list any day :-)

Re: Getting the north east trading online – your input, please

Main comment is that I think issue no 2 requires a sustained campaign populated by the biggest names in enterprise IT/software (MSFT, BT, Oracle, Google, Sage, etc.) but fronted by an independent brand (IOD, CBI, etc) as a way of businesses to invest their time and eventually money/attention towards online adoption. This could be orchestrated by the RDA, sponsored at least 50/50 with the big brands.

Once calls to action/trial are made you can then connect interested these businesses to digital/IT service providers based in the NE to fulfill.

Sounds like the Stepchange experience could be valuable in informing the actual engagement with sme's on e-adoption.
