Months ago, I received a Facebook private message from a man named Don, “I was given your name by Ivette at Captain Care / Capitán Cuidado Intervention. I was baffled how she would have received the information that is on my lost dog’s microchip. Later, I regrettably found out that it was a misdial. The phone number dialed was right, but the area code dialed was wrong. What a strange coincidence. Ivette gave me your contact information, and suggested that you could help me. Maybe I was supposed to find you…”

At first, I thought Don was a bit stiff. He was very respectful and kind, and had the sexiest voice ever, but seemed a little too reserved. Honestly my interaction with him felt a little awkward and impersonal, and I attributed this to his profession as a lawyer. After several phone conversations, I said something and he guffawed. His laugh was a seasoned laugh…and I realized that he actually had a really great sense of humor. And with the ice finally broken…we talked…and talked… and talked…and found that we actually had a lot in common. Months later, we still have not found Dino, but we both like to think that his lost dog and my beloved Daisy were a part of this divine intervention.

Through this misdial from Captain Care, I have been blessed to find a friend that I can be my uncensored, quirky, funny, authentic self with. We deeply care for one another, and he has been my safety blanket when small, everyday troubles have mounted caring for my Mom who has vascular dementia. He has taught me to cherish the beauty of the present moment, and how to live a life of love in action. Honestly, here is no one that I enjoy spending time with more than Don. He is my best friend, my funny Valentine, and my Mom’s beloved Cyber boyfriend.

Who would have ever thought that a misdial from Captain Care, an intervention group that I work very closely with, would lead me to meet my Funny Valentine 2,768 miles away? ❤️
