This comment that I keep seeing about, Apple really being able to handle demand for new products strikes me as hilarious and a waste of time.
The posters/writers who pose this question clearly lack the historical reference that Apple manages this just like the rest of their company. As a long-term Apple (Mac) user Apple selling out of a new product comes with zero surprise. People want what they can't have all the more. Don't pretend to report about Apple, do it. The history right there for posters to 'unearth' and write / report about, and yet you don't. A lot of you anyway.

That may be your "30-60 days" experience but it's simply not true. More often than not as a long-term AT&T customer I'm given the full upgrade price no matter when I signed my prior contract and they waive the upgrade fee as well. If you're going to post you need to be specific to your situation and not make sweeping generalizations that have no basis beyond "your experience".

I upgraded October 2011 from the iPhone 4 to the iPhone 4S and I will upgrade as soon as I'm able to pre-order the iPhone 5. I'm a very long-term customer of AT&T and have been with both Verizon (crap land, hands down) and Sprint. I have no problem signing a new 2-year contract with AT&T because in my opinion out of the three largest cellular providers in the U.S. they're the best. Plus I travel abroad frequently so I have no use for a cell phone, smart or otherwise that isn't capable of international roaming. There's also a real world difference with regard to customer service i.e., Verizon pretends to provide it at best whereas AT&T provides prompt, thorough customer service. AT&T like Apple, Inc. ROCKS!

You people keep getting it SO WRONG! The initial pre-order stock sold out and the next batch isn't due to be delivered until March 19th. As someone who pre-ordered last Wednesday afternoon I can assure according to Apple I will still receive my new iPad Friday March 16th. Stop with the inaccurate 'reporting' (and I use that term VERY loosely!

The Apple product road map is years out. This is NOT the last iPhone Steve Jobs was involved with, it is however the first iPhone released after his death, so yes there's a halo effect but it's also an kickass iPhone.

My bad -- you sure that isn't a FedEx tracking number, you mention UPS which isn't usually the carrier Apple uses, especially direct out of China. I've ordered a lot from Apple and not just iPhones and except for the random accessory all the more expensive, if you will items always come via FedEx. They're clearly using FedEx for both logistics and shipping as an integral partner in their Asian supply chain. Check again and if it is FedEx, update your post. Thanks.
