Chad: the chip is designed to communicate with a GPS satellite to know exactly when you are in/out of state. And I doubt farm equipment will require one.

$53K - $70K annually seems just outrageous for an unskilled STATE position. That is our tax money! I would love for 22 NEWS to investigate and report on this!!!! See how many people who pay taxes in MA think that's fair...

But, on the flip side of my first post - I would rather not have to pay an additional tax at all! I read an article the other day that stated that the average pay for a MA Pike toll booth worker was $70.00/HR - that, of course includes time and a half. I would love verification of this because that is the first place I would start to trim away wasteful spending!!! That is totally bogus and wasteful. Forgive me if you are a state worker, but the same job - collecting money and making change - pays minimum wage everywhere else in the state.

I think the point of the chip and accompanying software is to determine how much driving you do on MASS roads. if they go simply by the odometer that would not be accurate for anyone traveling out of state on a regular basis. I for one think it's not a bad idea. Many people, like us, have other vehicles that we buy gas for that aren't used on roads - boats, lawn mowers, tractors, generators, chain saws, etc. Why should we be paying extra tax via gas on engines that never see the road? Well, the boat is towed down the road...I guess that partially applies!
