in french, "gauche" and "maladroit" serve the purpose pretty well. chinese has the term "ganga" 尴尬. in addition, the chinese slang term, "jiong" 囧 (see here: http://www.chinasmack.com/g... for a rough definition), might also do the trick. you can say it after you do something embarrassingly stupid or after being awestruck, but it means much more than that also, haha.

anyway, hope that helps. if any other french/chinese speakers can chime in, that'd be great -- i'm fluent in both, but neither is my native language, so any situational nuances would probably escape me.
