You're confusing the remote probability of specified predictions with the high probability of unspecified results. Common mistake... it's the equivalent of asking why you haven't won the lottery just because others do.

Also, biological imperative lends itself to a double standard with regard to commitment... a guy who prioritizes commitment is more attractive, whereas the same is not necessarily true for a girl.

First of all, define the scope of your goals. Do you simply want to work in a pleasant environment surrounded by good people, or do you want to correct the perceived injustice at your current job?

If you just want to enjoy your job, the solution is simple... aggressively search for another one. Quit as soon as possible. Forget you ever worked there.

The alternative is brutal and ugly, but if you really want to stick it to the management, you need to quietly begin documenting every incident of harassment and discrimination... detailed, written evidence. Take the time to read up on a little "hostile work environment" case law. Be sure to write up comparative instances where men got favorable treatment or were not punished when a woman would have been.

Don't tell anyone what you're doing, because if management finds out, you will be fired immediately. Don't kid yourself about that... you're an at-will employee with no contract performing unskilled labor. You're replaceable, and if anyone even suspects you're a threat, you're gone.

After a few months, take all your documentation to an attorney and file suit. Drop it like a fuckin' bomb.

If you're lucky, the manager will get fired and you'll get to keep your job under better conditions. If you're insanely lucky, you'll win a jury award and ride off to grad school with a quarter million dollars. Most likely though, it will be a miserable process that will fill your world with adversaries, drain your time and energy, and keep you from moving on to a better place.

The real solution here is just to find another job, tell your manager to go fuck himself, and walk out with the reservation book on the busiest night of the week.

(...and don't overlook the bitter irony that the only way you get to be a hostess is by being a pretty girl in the first place.)
