Mike's done an outstanding job in Amherst over the years with his youth and high school team. So much so that it's really is time that his high school team start playing against teams that are on the same level as his is.

How can beating up on teams by 25+ points most weeks be exciting for he or his players? I can see where that would be fun for a couple of games, but for the whole season?? Wouldn't they get more out of the experience by playing teams that give them more of a challenge each week? They'd probably challenge for the DII championship each season and would likely be very competitive in D1 at t his point in time.

Without question, Mike has a boat load of talented players. Having a former player that has a legitimate shot at making the NFL and another that starts at a D1AA college is a testament to this. That talent is what it is in large part thanks to his and his associates tireless efforts over the past 10+ years working with the youth of Amherst. Get him up to DII and eventually D1 where he and his teams will continue to shine and will really have a championship they cherish.

Re: Store owner says fenced-in lot barrier to parking

Fence went up in July, but it wasn't owned by the landlord, meaning it could be taken away at any moment. Who in their right mind would open a business with that type of situation, especially where the business was so dependent on customers being able to get in and out quickly?

Re: Stephen helped win, despite his own loss

Maggie Hassan would have a hard time being elected for a state wide office. She is a NASTY, NASTY person when things don't go her way. I could see Sylvia Larsen, on the other hand, being much like Governor Lynch and having voters eating out of her hand.

It won't matter for either of these two, however. Ted Gatsas will be the next Governor of NH.

Re: Owner indicted for misusing meals taxes

I've seen this plenty of times as well. Mostly sub / pizza shops. It's not always the owners that are to blame, however. Sometimes, employees will either not ring an order up or ring up a smaller amount. They'll keep track of the orders they don't ring up or under ring and pocket that cash at the end of their shift.

When I see this and I know it's not the owner, I'll normally call the owner the following day to let them know what I observed. If I know it's the owner not ringing sales in, I call the NH Dept. Revenue to let them know what's taking place at establishment XYZ. After all, if the owner is ripping off the state, they are actually ripping John Q. Public off as well.

Re: Officer taking cruiser home not addressed

I agree that Kevin should be able to take the car home, but it's still going to take him 10-15 to get to some places in town if called out. If there is a serious issue in town when there is no coverage, won't Wilton respond on a mutual aid basis and cover for Kevin or the SP until they arrive?

Re: Officer taking cruiser home not addressed

Clearly, you've never met Kevin. The last thing we need is Ms. Peterman on the board.

Mr. Brew and Mr. Infanti will indeed make an excellent team along with the other 3 gentlemen. Hopefully Mr. Brew can assist Mr. Bowler in keeping his temper in check.

Re: Around the towns: Bus system kicks in to help

Feel free to start a fundraiser to pay for this service. Don't expect others to pay for it via increased taxes. I don't ask for taxpayers to fund my daily bus trip to Boston. Why should I have to pay for someone's bus trip to Market Basket? Because they are a few years older than me? No thanks.

Re: Around the towns: Bus system kicks in to help

Shameful? Please.

Where does it end? On the one hand, people can't afford higher taxes. On the other, they want additional services. Sorry, if you need to get to an appointment or need to go shopping, do what people have done for years - have a friend or family member drive you there. Or, let the few people who need the service pay for the service.

The Selectmen did the right thing last year by making this a warrant article. They are doing their best to keep costs in line as they know times are tough. Isn't that what you want as a taxpayer? I know I do.

Re: Renters get a free ride in NH

A tax on renters? Yeah, that's a great idea. NOT.

Do you really think renters rent because they like living in an apartment or in a home that isn't their own? Hardly. They simply don't have the ability to purchase a place of their own yet, or they don't yet earn enough to support a mortgage.

What will you do with renters that don't (or can't) pay their renters tax? Throw them out on the street?

Of course tenants already pay property tax via their monthly rent payment. Do you honestly think that a landlord isn't going to recover that cost? The landlord gets the deduction because they are the property owner. That's the way it works.

Don't worry Mark - the vast majority of the evil renters will end up paying property taxes in the end. Who would want to be a renter all of their lives? Most are saving to become property owners some day.

Re: Unidentified person adding incorrect color blazes on Amherst trail

From the Albany NY paper, a few months ago.....

This is AS I SEE IT, by Mike "Mainer Mike" Brown, The AS I SEE IT Guy.

Speaking of earthquakes, I think you have to be nuts to live on the west coast. Someday, a massive earthquake will occur. And scientists say it's not a matter of if, but when.

That's just one more thing I like about living in the northeast-it's one of the safest places in the world to live.

One last point, when the big one finally hits California, how is the military going to handle it? They're already stretched out in the Middle East.

Scary.

That's AS I SEE IT.
