Case5250 has a mom that doesn't own a computer, and probably is too old to learn how to use a computer. This isn't uncommon for the elderly.

For Case's mom, a cellphone might as well be a brick, but paper mail in a mailbox is actually useful. The same would have been true for my recently deceased mom.

Some of us certainly remember Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo. Those were awesome days (I was at Purdue at the time, got to see Neil Armstrong after the Moon landing).

I just wish those projects were continued. We could have tried for Mars if politics hadn't been the only reason for those projects...

I hope the Start menu as shown is optional, as well as touch screens. I hate touch screens (I tried an HP touch screen once at Costco--icky), because a user of a touch interface leaves fingerprints on the screen.

Touch is a problem, in that a session using touch screens leave fingerprints all over the computer screen, and they're annoying when reading the screen. Maybe the screen will be OK with a screen that repels fingerprints...

Next there's the Loop Fire near Carlsbad Caverns. The Loop Road used to be a pretty drive on a good gravel road, not far from the entrance to Carlsbad Caverns.

Ferry: Any computer that can connect to the Internet is an Internet machine. That would be almost any PC, Mac, Unix or Linux box, maybe even that tablet computer Apple's been selling these days.

The fire didn't start till this afternoon.

Chances are TJ Wilhelm probably bought his NCAA tickets a long time before that fire started, but may well be working on the fire as you grouse. Most people have cell phones now you know, and he can delegate authority to handle the fire from Indy. I'm a Democrat, so I actually have a mind and can think outside the box. Try using a little thought sometime...

Good point, though I do split my ticket at election time, so I do vote for Republicans when they're the best person for the job. As much as I disliked Bush, when he ran against Kerry I voted for Dubya simply because Kerry was far flakier than Dubya.

"Amendment 1 - Freedom of Religion, Press, Expression. Ratified 12/15/1791.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

That has been interpreted to mean that you can privately pray all you want, any way you want (including not at all), but government can not "establish" a religion and require that you support that religion.

Anecdote: I was raised a Catholic, then was transferred to a public middle school in 9th grade. I was not comfortable with praying in the Protestant manner, which was still allowed in those days. Neither was a Jewish friend of mine at school. A suit was later filed (not by my friend and I of course) claiming that prayer in school effectively "established" a religion, and per the Supreme Court you can't have official prayer in school. You can still pray to yourself, you just can't have an official prayer.

No--you missed the point. The Rosicrucians of the time (including Ben Franklin) were deistic, and didn't pray to anyone.

I used to be a Catholic (but gave it up for Lent). They prayed directly to God--all three members of the Trinity of course. Praying "In Jesus Name" only from their standpoint would be really missing the point.

As far as Las Vegas NM is concerned, there's this clause in the Constitution about separation of church and state, and it's still in effect. Personal prayer isn't forbidden, just any attempt to connect government and religion.

Why put up roundabouts/traffic circles at all? The few circles in town confuse drivers, especially the circle on Yale near the UNM Hospital, and the tiny circle on Central Ave just west of Downtown, which blocks use of that intersection by the fire department.

Could someone explain to my why there's a traffic circle at 8th and Central? That circle confuses drivers, and keeps the fire department from using that intersection.
