I didn't have to do much objection.

But here's the main thing. Atwood started his campaign back in 2009: http://blog.codinghorror.co...

Read that. I don't want to selectively quote words. Then come back here.

OK. I think it's fair to say his argument then was that my desire to let Markdown be, to let it stand, as-is, warts and all, was going to hurt Markdown, and doom Markdown.

Now here we are, five years later. Five years. And during that time I have done exactly what Atwood says was "irresponsible". I have let Markdown be.

And Markdown is more popular than ever before. I counted yesterday, and my /markdown/ pages on Daring Fireball had well over 3.5 million page views in the previous 12 months, *up* over half a million from the previous 12 months. Markdown is thriving. Flourishing. And I firmly believe it's because I have let it be.

And I've never said that I won't ever update Markdown again. I might. When I wrote it, we were in a world where the future looked like XHTML. The actual future is HTML5. But any such updates will and should come on my terms, and my timetable.

All I ask of them, for their project, is to pick their own name. That's it.

If I'm such a bad steward of the project, then why do they want to usurp the name "Markdown" so badly.

Re: http://yourmonkeycalled.com/post/612529433

Christ, I thought they were bottle openers. I was going to order one.

Still going to order one. But it doesn't solve my bottle opener problem.

Re: your monkey called

Sweat & Tears It Up is more like it, am I right?

Re: Officially Lucky, a blog by Clint Ecker

I read that paragraph and its surrounding context several times before linking, looking for the part where Sadun specified that the advice against upgrading to OS 2.2 applied only to would-be SIM-unlockers.
