Never had these problems for 2 years, now it has becoming fustrating to use it. I'm using Mac OS X Lion.

Re: Sass vs. SCSS: Which Syntax is Better? - Articles

The "something happened on the way" virtual pike was aimed at W3C et. al (who run their own show naturally) not Sass team, you can't be responsible for the nasty stylesheet web standards. You've only done what you could to overlap them. For that I applaud you really. I even voted for SCSS ticket in the Chrome bug tracker, but that doesn't mean I will write SCSS if I can avoid it - it only means SCSS > CSS.

Re: Sass vs. SCSS: Which Syntax is Better? - Articles

In fact it has nothing to do with "in what corner you started: SASS or SCSS"; it's about if you hate (yes hate by its true definition) verbose non-saying characters to make compilers easier to write - in this case curly braces and semicolons. Compilers should be written to handle human input and turn it into optimized code, I think that was the original vision but something happened on the way.

Re: http://blog.tripbirds.com/post/9666265963

"Merchii" sits on Riddargatan 30, might move soon. I would suggest most Rubyists to reflect on how _why managed to write such awesome stuff with hardly no tests (as far as I've seen at least). Code is art, treat it like that more often as well.

My dirty secret: Most of my greatest code I crafted first and added tests to afterwords - because I wrote it for fun.

Re: Rack-webconsole: a Ruby/Rails console inside your browser - Codegram

Very nice, but the pick of backtick ` as toggler is not really supported by non-US/EN keyboard layouts. They only way for me to trigger backtick on the keyboard defaults is Shift + ´, and that won't trigger the event (as shift is a mask). Would you guys consider something that will work on all keyboard layouts out-of-the-box? I can fix it quick for my own purposes, but this will be an issue for most devs without US/EN layout.

Re: Top 10 Most Annoying Facebook Status Updates From My Silicon Valley Friends

I'm not even nearby the valley so I cannot tell if "all people there" is like this (I assume not), but based on my own views I would say that the translations is defined by you and to parse peoples status update in this black/white way says more about you than anyone else (in your network). If I say "Nice shirt" - would you parse that as "Just because you got a nice shirt doesn't mean you are something bla bla bla"? That's the feeling I get at least. Not everything is black and white.

Re: Why naming your company sucks - A Sack of Seattle

Not sure how this landed on HN, but I got a tempt to writing a blog post "Why writing a blog about 'naming your company sucks' sucks". Serisouly, just because you had problems finding a name it don't motivates a blog post preaching it implies that it sucks for everyone and is a waste of time. It's not hard to prove the opposite, but no you should never base a business on a name *only*. My advice is: Brainstorm for a few every now and then, and one day you just got one one everyones mouth. With that in mind it makes sense to review if anyone except you self can spell it and if it's possible to build a brand around it at all. I would state that "awesomephotosharing" is typically gonna fail no matter how good the team is - to use a really lame example.

"All the good names are taken" - what are youl taking about, prove that scientifically please. You won't be able to state that, ever.

I'm out, founders: don't take this post seriously.

Re: http://blog.fraserharris.com/post/6553721422

"Cash is legal tender, backed by national banks, and is highly regulated."

L-O-L

"Bitcoin is backed & defended by no organization of weight, is designed to usurp government oversight, and its earliest adopters include drug traffickers."

Yes, because everyone using Bitcoin buy drugs...right. That's the feeling I get with such comment. Apple's service is a huge failure - in Europe we laugh at it loudly. Spotify is more than just another streaming service. I also personally don't like the "readability" of the syntax, and I got a reason to think it's affecting performance (I might be wrong). I think MetaWhere was on point because it was usng same (very predictable) DSL as ActiveRecord's home-brewed one. Hope this was helpful to understand my critisizm better.

cheers!

Re: Introducing Squeel!

I love MetaWhere 1.0, but I think you are on a completely wrong strike with 2.0 - the new syntax simply don't embrace the Ruby-feel anymore. I'll personally stick with 1.0. Don't trying to troll here, just some reality-checking. I'm hardly the only user of MetaWhere, but I guess I speak for me and the other Ruby developers I know personally.

P.S. I hate Erlang syntax, but seen some cool features with it, so this could be a win-win. P.S. I was a bit afraid that you were leaving Ruby for Erlang based on your tweets - that would have been a big loss - but now I see what you've been cooking.
