Excellent point. I think that one is mitigated somewhat by her knowing it was wrong by claiming it was an accident. She never seemed to think the abbobo without informing Paul was a dodgy idea.

But she'd be way more fun to hang out with.

I meant all preachers. Anyone saying that they know what God wants is telling a fairy tale. A complete fabrication, an act of hubris beyond measure. And any person that relies on a pile of two thousand year old, poorly transcribed scrolls to know what's right or wrong is in need of help.

What? No. Think about the intersection from a birds-eye-view and an 18-wheeler taking a right. It's a sharp 90 degree turn for a huge vehicle it's making a sharp in what amounts to a quarter of the intersection. A left turn on the other hand gets to clear much more of the intersection in a much larger arc. That's why they caution about wide rights since they often have to go into other lanes.

I agree with all of that and more to the point I don't think it was even "material" information, what I've read says that their official filings made it clear that they were nearing a billion hours a month.

Ok, in 2007 no one in particular went to Corning to see about getting large amounts of thin, strong glass for a consumer product.

This object and it's unclear level of success lead to Corning's sales of the glass from $20 million to $700 million.

They're publicly traded, they can't just lie about their sales figures. If they're lying it will all come out in their sales calls. Besides, 2M fits the sales trends from the previous generations.

If it makes him happy, I want Gruber to move on. I never minded the way the show meandered I don't care for baseball but I like hearing people whose opinions enjoy talk about it. But it was obvious from recent weeks that his heart just wasn't in it. The last one he seemed really engaged in was the one where they were talking about Dukes of Hazzard.

I think Gruber's going to find doing the show on his own trickier than he expects. His MO, and he's said as much on the show, is to roll out of bed, fire up Skype, breakfast or coffee during and after dialing, talk to Dan for 60 to 180 minutes and then hang up, later he gets a check.

I don't know the set-up at Mule, but I'll bet it's not that. Dan's a pro, and he pushed and squeezed to get a Talk Show out nearly every week with or without Gruber. Gruber can be a good and engaging guest where he's quizzed about goings on in tech because he authors one of the biggest blogs in that realm. Getting it all together, from vacations, finding guests, putting together show notes, weathering slow news weeks and months and then keeping to a schedule?

We'll see in six months.

I'm ready to start this, the new Talk Show should be called the Talk Faux which is hack but whatever.

This is still guarded Gruber in damage control after the completely avoidable clusterfuck last week. I'm curious as to what the long standing disagreements were with Dan and 5by5 but that's really none of our business.

What I could have stood to hear a little more of is what his takeaway was from really and truly underestimating his audience while at the same time Monteiro trashed them for daring to voice opinions. How on earth did they think this change was going to go?

Benjamin did two things amazingly well, 1. business as usual, the last Friday shows were him at his normal and level best and 2. releasing his brief statement on Monday and then going back to business as usual. Gruber and Monteiro pootched it with Gruber posting passive agressive articles and tweets and Monteiro alienating his audience in the absence of news or an explanation.

It seems like this should have been nothing but PR 101, jointly release the news in the brightest of terms before releasing an episode. Seems like somebody was too eager to start burning bridges.

They're grownups, I didn't like how this went down and calling it "The Talk Show" still feels wrong even more so with Benjamin's name missing from from the new/old art. Still it's nice to get a little closure.

Just listened to The Critical Path 20 on my drive in and I have some thoughts to add. For you bucking the system disruptors you're looking first at Steven Soderbergh and Mark Cuban who in 2006 released Soderbergh's "Bubble" a tiny budgeted indie movie made with complete unknowns to cable (HDNet), DVD, video on demand and theaters on the same day. This was met with considerable opposition and the only theater chain that would run the movie was the one that was owned by Cuban. The movie didn't make much of a splash but it wouldn't have no matter what, it was a slow and ponderous indie with no stars. Soderbergh wasn't hurt by it, he has a rep for swinging wildly from the commercial to the indie and he's made six movies since with two more coming out in 2012.

Last year Kevin Smith did something similar in his release of "Red State" where he purchased the film himself and then a travelling road show with himself and the cast showing the movie in auditoriums with Q&As following each showing, he charged a top dollar price for a movie ($30 - $60 as I recall) but with more of a concert feeling. The movie then did a week long Academy qualifying run (a movie has to have played in a Los Angeles area theater for one week starting no later than Christmas Day of that year to qualify for the Oscars) the movie was then released to VOD for $10 and then started running on Netflix streaming.

Even more recently Universal kicked up some trouble when they wanted to release the medium to large budgeted Eddie Murphy movie "Tower Heist" to Comcast VOD three weeks after it debuted in theaters. The plan was to charge $60 for a viewing but Universal backed down after the theater chains cried foul and threatened to pull their showings.

It seems like the area most set in its ways and most ripe for disruption is the theater distribution and chains. It's come to a head for a lot of people and for me personally. A Los Angeles Monday matinee of "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" this week cost $16 before parking and popcorn, that's a system that has become too much of a once in a while treat and away from where it was a weekly habit for a good chunk of America. We still like movies, we're just willing to wait a few months to watch them in the quiet of our homes on our giant plasmas.

I've had the issues, checking Twitter/mail in the morning kills 15% of the battery way faster than it did on the iPhone 4. But I figured that the complaints would reach critical mass and a fix would be rolled out or I could take it to the genus bar for a replacement. Apple isn't perfect but they're better than any company I can think of for making things right.

The best of these future vision videos are the AT&T "You Will" ads from 1993 and 1994. Not only has almost all of that tech come to pass but they depict a world where a tired woman with her arms full is aided by new technology to open her front door and movies are available on demand, a future that helps you.

What got me about the Microsoft future vision above is that these are content people using future tech and not a one of them looks the least bit happy nor do their lives seem to be that much better. There are a lot of graphics wooshing around and our future where people will totally, finally use video chat is right around the corner. But what in here seems like much of an improvement over what we have now. Except video tables everywhere.

Egads. It was weird for them to release the Verizon iPhone in January. Not good, not bad, just different from how things have been rolling over the last four years. Sure it was on a new carrier but it was for all intents and purposes the same iPhone 4 but released seven months into the cycle.

I don't have anything to get over. I'm not upset or sad it's just a change of what's been happening and it's fun to talk about whether it's a strategic shift to goose holiday sales, late software or late hardware.

It's going to be weird to have a summer go by without an iPhone but if I had to lay money I'd think we see software hullabaloo at WWDC with Lion and an amazing iOS 5 roadmap. Only then in September we'd get an iPhone / iPod event. It seems like the iPod form factors have settled quite a bit and the excitement has gone out of it, adding the iPhone refresh would liven that up.
