It definitely is a very dependent factor.

Re: Blinded by the White: Social Media and Diversity

Absolutely! In fact I read your comment afterwords and couldn't agree more. My dad is Brazilian, but I have lived in Mexico, and Spain. It just shocks me that so many marketers feel the need to group, and not do their proper research. I'll reiterate that it's just like marketing to anyone else, one must know who they're talking to. If not, it's a failed half-assed attempt at marketing.

Re: Blinded by the White: Social Media and Diversity

One of the things that never ceases to surprise me are marketers who consider Hispanic marketing a completely different market. The reality, and what surprises me is that too many times that market is being looked at like some sort of exception to the rule. Fact is - it really is just like marketing to anyone else. Messages must be catered to a specific audience and culture.
As someone whose lived in multiple countries & a polyglot, being able to understand diversity and culture is much more impacting than just focusing on, "The white guys". I hope that sooner than later social media can help over come so many of the cultural barriers we face in marketing.
-Greg
@gregdelima

Re: How We Are Killing Facebook

Scott,
All I have to say is Thank You. The intention wasn't there right off the bad, which was maybe their first mistake. I personally feel that marketing is all about the expectations that customers have, and if this email went way away from yours, then there's a fault in the communication line and it should be fixed.
-G-
http://gregdelima.com
@gregdelima

Re: Why brands must start caring about something other than themselves

Simon,
Great post, and as a "Gen-Yer" it really shows the progress in opinion about us. The general consensus has maintained that we're a bunch of entitled egomaniacs who slack off a lot way too much. But these results finally show that that's not the case, we actually care about what's going on around us, business or otherwise.
I've written about GenY before on my blog, but oddly enough a post I wrote recently (http://ar.gy/3~o ) has to do a lot with the way brands are approaching people, not just gen-y. Brands whether or not they're focusing on "my" generation, they should be giving people an experience, whether it's a social good cause, or a Green cause doesn't matter. But giving an experience for them to be a part of is what matters, and that's what brands are just now finally realizing.

Re: Facebook’s New Best Friend? The fact that the Gap gave you not just one option, but a back up option through Facebook Places is an excellent strategy. It's an interesting manipulation of Demand really, they got you to the store, AND made you buy something.
If Old Navy did this, I'd be getting myself some new jeans too.
-Greg
@gregdelima
http://gregdelima.com

Re: Is GenY a "Teacup" Generation?

Donna,
Thank you for actually taking a good stance on Gen Y. Most people have issues with our generation thinking that we're entitled, and that we aren't willing to work at all for our successes. I've written a couple of posts that may convey my point of view a little better: http://ar.gy/3xM & http://ar.gy/3xK
Generally speaking though, being ripped on almost daily by researchers and "professionals" you post is a great support.

Re: The Difference Between Failure and Fall-ure

Jonathan,
As a boulderer I know exactly how this relates, and it's an excellent way to put it. When I was studying my marketing classes (last year) so much of the focus lacks in the Place. Especially with the web industries the main aspects are always focused on promotion, product and price, but we don't necessarily think of place (outside of just "being online").
Place isn't just the where, but when and why we choose to place a product in a particular location and more importantly how we get it there.

Re: Are You Sure You Want That Social Media Job?

Amber,
Two words: HELL YES!
This is by far one of the best articles I've read regarding the separation of professional and personal online. No matter what we do online or off, if we're connected to our company as part of a social environment, it will come back to both.
I'd like to say that when you say you're a businesswoman not a social media guru, I think that is so much of what people take for granted today. So many people are going on and on about how they're a social media expert or whatever, but truly it's just good business. Just using a different means of doing so.
So yes, thanks for helping us all realize what comes from social media and how it really is a part of something bigger.
-Greg
http://gregdelima.com
@gregdelima

Re: 5 Tools For Social Market Research

Stephanie, Social Mention is great, the one hitch though is really knowing the terms you need to search for.
