Also, please note that 15Mbps is not all that great when you have 20Mbps cable modem service. But external connection speed isn't my only consideration. I am often moving 20GB files around my network and that was just painfully slow with 15Mbps.

The MoCA (Ethernet over Cable-TV Coax) hardware I used performs much better, getting me 90-100Mbps at the same cost. And in the 2 years I have been using the MoCA gear, I haven't had to reset it once nor have I had any trouble with it dropping connections, etc. It works so well I forget it is there.

The problem with the PL wasn't just that it underperformed it's advertised throughput of 200Mbps (never going above 15Mbps or so) but that there were consistent dropouts which would interrupt transfers. This was the much bigger issue and the reason I could never recommend this hardware to anyone.

I was never able to get Powerline to perform very well. Even when the two Powerline endpoints were plugged into two outlets on the same circuit on the same wall, I would get terrible throughput and dropouts. I wrote a review you can read here:

If I get to Fenway really early for a game I'll sometimes go to Copperfield's to kill some time. It's an OK place to have a few beers before a game, and the crowd isn't terribly obnoxious (which i can't always say for Game On or Cask & Flagon)

I've had a packet of that stuff in my cupboard for like 7-8 years now.. Found it when I first moved to Boston.. They've redesigned the packaging... :)
