I think along with all the other subject matter that should be addressed, I think the middle passage is important. There have been other slave movies, not many but some, but they rarely address the middle passage or show details of how we lived prior to slavery.

Re: Donald Trump Scares Me: The Politics of Money, Power and Fame.

I have been saying the same thing myself Nikesha! To definitely need to revisit are activists roots and take a lesson from are baby-boomer parents.

Re: Lauryn Hill Dedicates New Song "Black Rage" To Ferguson

She most definitely did!

Re: Movie Reviews: Get on Up, Clue

I saw "Get on Up" last night and I enjoyed it. I think Chadwick Boseman did an excellent job as James Brown in my opinion and as far as biopics go which I always compare to Jamie Foxx's "Ray" this film came pretty close to being as good. Closer than "Ali" and others. I would've just like to see a little bit more focus on his activism. He was very instrumental in Al Sharpton's career and he had a lot of influence, which the film did negate -- but as stated there was just too much to fit into a 2 hour film.

Re: Michael Brown Shooting in Ferguson, Missouri - How Far Has America Come in Race Relations?

What if he did not do what they tried to say he did? He was shot twice in the head, give me one instant where anything remotely close to this has happened to a white person by a cop in America.

The facts are all around us. I would encourage you to do a little more research and learn about black oppression in America. It is just a prevalent today as it was 40 years ago.

Re: Michael Brown Shooting in Ferguson, Missouri - How Far Has America Come in Race Relations?

Whoa cowboy...Where are you getting these facts from? White people ARE NOT victims of police murder on the same scale as blacks. There is an innate fear of black men by law enforcement and society as a whole, which fuels these killings. Police already look at everyone like they are a perp. but when it's a black male that aggression is amplified because of societies pre-conceived notions about who we are coupled with this countries desire to rid itself of blacks. This is most certainly both a racial problem and a problem with law enforcement.

Re: Why I Can Only Get So Angry About The Ferguson Police Shooting.

I think we are mixing apples and oranges here bro. First, yes we know that there is a real serious problem in our communities with regards to violence as a result of drug and gun infestation as well as just general economic disparity and lack of viable education. But we also know that this problem is a direct result of a systematic assault against black men. Police brutality is an institution that is birthed out of the same premise, which is to make black men extinct. I think outrage on both accounts is important, but understand that white on white crime exists, yellow on yellow crime, red on red, etc.

The constant brutality, murder and assault of black men by police is, although it comes from the same place as "black on black" crime, is it comparable because police are suppose to be held to a high standard. Clearly there is an assault on our people at the hands of law enforcement, which essentially is carrying out the orders of the establishment, so I don't think it matters how many black men murder other black men, when it comes down to how we view police conduct and it's assault on us.

Re: Black Progress? From the ratchet twerk videos, to the cell phone video fights, to just the low values that we constantly display for all the world to see. It honestly makes me want to ban many of our people from technology altogether. But to speak directly to your point, it does seem necessary for the success of a movement/revolution to hold people accountable for stepping outside of certain boundaries. The problem is that there is a fine line between maintaining order and crossing over into the waters of dictatorship.

Re: Black Progress? It doesn't make a whole lot of sense but I don't see what this woman would gain from making all this up. I think I may need to dig a little deeper and see what else is going on here and report back.

To speak directly to the Janitor's points, I totally agree about the lack of good food in the hood. It's a big problem here in Philly as well. The closer you get to college campuses though, the options become more abundant but unfortunately many poor people of color are subjected to what can only barely be considered food to survivie on.

Re: HBO Game of Thrones Recap: The Lion and the Rose

I agree, but I think it was a joint effort. I think the Tyrell grandmother, whom I believe they refer to as the Mother of Thorns, was behind it, with the help of Sansa and Margery and possibly Sir Dontos. Also it was a great dialogue between Tywin and the Red Viper. Very interesting indeed!

Re: HBO Game of Thrones Recap: The Lion and the Rose

I'm pretty sure it was Sansa that spiked Joffrey's wine, lol. See how she wanted to leave as soon as she picked that cup up and gave it to Tyrion. She slipped something in it, especially for him. Then the knight turned fool came out of nowhere to get her out of dodge. Maybe he helped?? This is going to be a great season either way.

Re: HBO Game of Thrones Recap: Two Swords

Totally did, and I was not happy about it.
