It could have been much worse indeed... only little things are gone forever.

And you wanna hear the strangest part: the monitor got totally fried (even though the computer is on a surge protector) but after 3 days of being turned off, it seems to be functioning again for the time being. Bizarre.

I've just reread this and I must say: I'm very intrigued. I'm not sure about blurring the lines of the two things though. That does give me pause.

How about this? We were thinking of adding a bonus (silly) cooking show (probably a separate YouTube channel and different category on this site), but that's the sort of thing where products seem to be a good fit. Because honestly, I could go on and on about my garlic peeler (you wouldn't think you need it, but it's so damn cool!) I wouldn't want to showcase products if they weren't something I actually liked/used, you know?

Thanks for all your thoughts! I think I have a long ways to go before I'm on any corporate would-be sponsors' radar anyway. Did you see the episode where I featured Amorphia Apparel? That was a product in the show, but it was a trade. I thought the shirts were really cool and wanted to spread the word so it made sense. Is the objectionable? Or do you mean just being like a shill for greedy (stereotype much, Marta?) corps?

It just depends, honestly. There's a point where it turns into profit but if we don't "move" enough of it, then I take a loss. What kind of things would you be interested in?

Goodness, you're too nice! Traffic is tricky because we publish the show on so many sites (YouTube, BlipTV, Metacafe, et al) it's hard to calculate it all... we have probably 3k to 5k views on average per episode and growing. In the heyday (because numbers slip when you stop regular production) it was around 10k viewers a day.

Right now, the payments don't come on a monthly basis - it's just sort of when the various partners decide to pay out. Sometimes there's a minimum to be earned, sometimes it's a 6 week period to elapse. And it really varies in amount... I suppose this is because sometimes an episode will cause a huge spike in views randomly.

At any rate, I would like to being earning enough money from gnooze so I can scrape by with the bare necessities* - I put that around $2k/month. And anything above and beyond that would be earned from freelance/part time work.

Obviously, I love if it were more profitable over time, but for me to continue to pour myself into this mostly full time, what I've stated above would truly help. It is a whole cause and effect thing too. If I earned enough to cover my necessities, I could do more with the show... maybe add other shows... other innovations. Who knows?

*Shelter, food, water, electricity, gas. I don't eat out. I don't buy new clothes. I think I maybe have 6 pairs of shoes (including flip flops and some shoes are many years old - I love the cobbler!)

Oh this IS a side project! I should have said the workload is equivalent to a full time job! That's my problem really... is that gnooze keeps me busy enough lately that it's hard to juggle everything. And I'd love to be able to scale back other stuff and really focus even more on gnooze, but it's not financially justified.

Good thinking with another shirt run! I guess I've been waiting to sell out of the first one before thinking of another but you're right: different designs might appeal to a wider audience.

AdSense is here... I think I must need more traffic to get the "good" (read: profitable) ads though... and as far as affiliates, can you tell me more about that? We have the Amazon store here on the side bar and if people click through there to even get to Amazon to buy something that's not necessarily in my store, I get a little commission. Is that what you mean? Forgive my ignorance...

But I'll be honest: it's really brought me down today. I don't know where the life you refer to went or what changes you mean specifically... I don't feel like I killed the show on purpose. Anyway, I'm sad you don't see it in the same way anymore if only because I think there should more, not less, laughter in the world.
