This piece is spot on. The school has every right to discharge a religion teacher whose personal behavior contradicts the moral teaching of the religion she is supposed to teach.

Vicious online attacks are wrong no matter who does it or who the victims are. That was her point and I agree.

Really, what are you talking about? Christine was the object of a cyber attack using horrible photoshopped pictures. Her whole point is that anyone could be a victim of such an attack with all the gadgets out there.
Even you do not use your real name as a protection against such attacks.

I saw the burning and looting as opportunism. There were whites also in the crowd. People who did not even live there were in the gang of looters. This was not protest but crime!

It seems from all the publicity given the decision to keep abortion clinics open, this controversy is heating up.
Roe v Wade is in the process of being challenged. All the semantics in the world about “choice” and “rights” do not change the clinical facts. Abortion ends the life of an unborn human baby. Period.

Your frustration is understandable, but so many rely on employer provided health insurance. When that ends, what are they supposed to do?
I think there should be some kind of safety net that includes private insurance.
It would help if pharmacy prices were more affordable.

I agree with those who praise teachers and aunts as maternal influences in the lives of children.

Lucy was indeed a powerful mother and influence on you and your siblings. She was even maternal towards your dad who endured so much as a youngster. I can relate thanks to my own marriage to a man abandoned by his parents. Fortunately he also had my wonderful mom and dad to give him a sense of family.

Thanks for that insight. As a retired teacher, I recall many times that I had to assume a maternal role in the lives of children.
Male teachers also are needed to provide role models for so many fatherless boys.

I can’t explain something over which I have no control. If I were in charge I would try to encourage a balance of thought. But there is a spectrum of thought on both sides. Christine is moderate in some areas. On abortion she leaves no doubt as to her position.
At least Heron was willing to give her a platform - something the Inquirer failed to do.
She is a talented writer with a huge following. She deserves to be heard.

This piece shows exactly why we need neutral editors who can allow opinion writers with differing points of view to express themselves. It’s the only way to have a healthy exchange of ideas.
What the Inquirer/Daily News did to Christine was unconscionable. Very unfair. And they lost a lot of subscribers as a result. I do not want to see print journalism expire. We need platforms for not only news reporting but all points of view. Once that freedom ends, we will witness further decline of our democracy.

Well said. Too many newspapers have a political slant.
But opinion pages are meant to influence opinions. Christine appreciates that Heron gave her leave to express opinions that may have been to the right of his.
I hope her next editor is as generous.
