GET OUT! What color are you rocking? Mine is Metropolitan Gray. I am in
lurve with the car. Very zoom-zoomy, although that phrase is a lot sexier
when Patrick Dempsey is saying it. Whenever I see a Mazda commercial now,
it's as if he's speaking right to ME! And you, of course. Since we are car
twins :)

I actually do have the other two albums but I got them about five months
after I got the first two. I actually like the older two better now, but
I've got a ways to go before those tracks eclipse the newer albums on the
most-played list.

Hahaha, I was WAITING for you to say that! I knew you'd be shocked! It was
on the Jetta before I turned it over to Jon. I also cleaned the interior,
thoroughly, BY MYSELF at my parents' house on Sunday. I am, like, totally
being responsible with my vehicles now :)

I did. When Jon and I read it and got to the part about how "It's time to put the net away" and get rid of those "extra layers" of editing we decided it was good that I gave up on a copy editing career a while ago. That's the only "extra" layer I can imagine them eliminating that would bring about any real efficiencies.

And while I do think stories will suffer a bit if copy desks are phased out -- in the areas of grammar, punctuation and general attention to detail, because let's face it, that nit-pickiness is pretty unique to copy eds -- I do think all other hands that touch the copy will feel a greater sense of responsibility for the end result. Right now you have reporters caring exclusively about story and voice, news eds caring exclusively about content completeness and copy eds caring exclusively about grammar, punctuation, structure, etc., and that's just not smart.

The pay scale for most papers is the greatest injustice. Especially for the editing staff that doesn't get the benefit of recognition/sense of personal accomplishment a byline provides.

Yeah, a few days ago someone reblogged this and told me that serif fonts don't tire the eye out the way sans serif fonts do, and I told him that if that's the case I'd probably choose Caslon for my serif font of choice. My point was really just that I find Times New Roman to be ugly, that I'd rather look at something, ANYTHING, other than that when I'm at work, and that I generally prefer the fonts that come standard on a Mac (Helvetica included but not to the exclusion of the other very pretty fonts) over the fonts that are standard on a PC. It was just an off-the-cuff comment made after changing everything in a word document over to Arial (which, regardless of rules or historical examples to the contrary, I absolutely prefer to Times New Roman in Word docs). But as someone who doesn't make their living in the graphic arts and simply appreciates the artistry inherent in typeface, I appreciate the lesson on typography :)

That is very interesting! In that case, I'd choose Caslon for text-heavy documents. Which is also not a Microsoft standard font :(

Yeah, but EVERYONE was doing this today. Google would've been cute if I hadn't seen the Target/stuff white people like thing, and the Jezebel thing (ugh, THE JEZEBEL THING -- that went on all day!) I was all April Fools LOLed out.

I think they're trying to say that it's your hub -- it's the place where your various social network "spokes" connect. Not sure which pronunciation is correct. I do know that about 5 percent of the people who use it will actually use it for its intended purposes, while the other 95 percent will use it to stalk people/screen job candidates.

The whole premise is ridiculous. Yeah, it's all stuff that's publicly available ... but people decide what to make public based on how easy it would be for an acquaintance to find it on the internet. A lot of this stuff cannot be easily tracked when you only have an e-mail address. And people will find a way around this, because everyone feels entitled to determine how their online identity is collected/managed -- I already created a fake e-mail address and went back to make it my default on nearly all my social networking sites. All spokeo did was manage to freak me out and piss me off.

Jess -- I know! I turned it on and was like, "Ooof, Paula's hair looks awful!" And Jon was like, "It always looks awful!" But no, this was abnormally awful. Very flat.

Holly -- It's so freaking annoying! I'm kinda glad there's only one new episode left so I can unsubscribe to the series. I think it screwed up Lost tonight as well! It doesn't help that the shows you add most recently go to the end of the priority list. That seems counterintuitive. Wouldn't the thing I'm watching right now be a higher priority than something I added six months ago? C'mon DVR, READ MY THOUGHTS!
