from the passenger's perspective this is one fine ride. Some neon, some decals, a trunk full of speakers, and you will be fashionable anywhere.

We're thinking about a Fit too, when it's time to replace my wife's car.

(Reminds me of New Years 1999 - not that anyone was actually at all worried, but we had a Survivalist party anyway - fatigues, tents, guns, fire and alcohol - and we went in and watched with rapt attention as New Years reach Canberra and Moscow in particular.)

Oh, sorry! I'm sure they showed Sydney, but we were rooting for chaos in the world's capitals, so Canberra stuck in my mind.

All our money was on Moscow, though. Got to have nukes and bad quality control to make it really memorable, which narrowed it down to the USA and Russia.

(Hmm.. I seem to be running my country down a bit this week.)

Teaching heavy infantry how to use crowd-control and do police duties turns that unit into gendarmes. Having heavy infantry and armor units on the TOE and combat ready was a luxury probably doomed, but it somewhat dismaying to see our military devolve so quickly.

Palin evidently had some sort of tantrum today and banned the press from her meetings at the UN (film the handshakes and shut up dears) , so CNN - which was doing the cameras for all the networks - turned their gear off and left. Fun times.

We ought not complain, really - we've been having a party in this country since the 1980s by just running up the bar tab.. it's more that we'll knock over half the world's financial system in the course of this mess... like we did in 1929. Thanks for trusting us to make up the rules for international finance over and over.

As a friend of mine commented a while back "in America, poverty comes with cable TV."

My personal impact from this probably wont be all that huge.. no doubt the bailout will be magically borrowed instead of coming from tax revenue*, I bought my house before house prices went nuts, I work for a private college - so maybe we'll have tuition troubles next year.. I'm a long way from retiring should my retirement fund turn out to have gambled too much of its money.

yes, I work two doors down from Chris.. Gilmoure used to work downstairs (but now lives in New Mexico) and PeacockHarpy is Mrs. moorewr. It's a small world you have a window into.. Heh.

We're all news junkies anyway - thanks to the endless turmoil and scandals of the Bush years - and a crisis like this just makes it get way out of hand.

Hey - you live in the Alaska of Australia! Except Alaska doesn't produce anything like that much of the GDP. And you probably have less opportunity to skin moose and shoot wolves from helicopters.

A house was about three years income for a family in Florida ten years ago, and the average price tripled 1997-2005. Typical rents are 1/3 of monthly gross income.. both of these numbers mean housing is half or a third of the cost in FL that it is in the big cities in the northeast or the west coast.. a typical home loan in San Francisco would cost 500% of my monthly income. No way!

Could be audio driver - could be the amount of data your client buffers v. the latency of your internet connection, could be other things running on your system.. could eb the anti-virus.

I've also seen systems that are really slow when assigning more virtual memory.. so that could be why it starts stuttering once the buffer starts growing.
