Get used to the GMT +/- notation. It's a good sanity check. Even if you don't use it in communication, it's a fixed reference for your conversion math.
2. Always use time zones in written communication and include both (use one of the online calculators to check the difference as well as the name of the target time zone). I like to use the official abbreviations, as opposed to "my time" and "your time."
3. Use the calculators to navigate the hazard of different summer time rules.
4. Remember that others also have trouble with time zones, especially the summer time rules (e.g., summer in the UK is BST, not GMT, but many events will say EST and GMT when they mean EDT/BST).

Re: Hamilton: More pit stops to cure boring Monaco GP

"reverse grids, sprinklers and short cuts"

Maybe some turtle shells to mix things up, too. :-)

Re: Write It Down

It's a short walk to the home office. :-)

Re: Write It Down

I ended up writing on the whiteboard for a couple of hours one night, as new ideas kept popping up (related to the initial topic), There was no way I was going to be able to sleep without getting through to the end of that creative process.

In the process, I discovered a secret: I was using a red flashlight to avoid the blue light problem, and I happened to use a light green marker—which is dark grey under red light. Highly readable, but not disruptive to going back to sleep.

Re: The Year in M&A, Social Media Analysis 2015

Not from me. I've lived most of my life in North Carolina, but those first two years on an army post uncheck the "born here" box for me. And thanks for the helpful links to other note-taking posts.

I find similar benefits from taking notes on my own ideas, especially the incomplete thoughts. Write 'em down, sketch 'em out, and maybe they'll grow into something when you revisit them. Sometimes I do my best thinking when I try to explain myself verbally, so that's another time to get something on paper—both the aha moment and the contribution of the person you're talking with.

I have an example in mind, but it's still in the handwritten phase. ;-)

Re: Welcome to The Contrarian’s Guide

Love the angle. How is inbound working for companies that sell widgets and gadgets? Segment by products and services, B2B and B2C, for-profit and non-profit, regional and national markets, normal/inferior/luxury goods... We're running the experiments now, right?

Re: Is Inbound Marketing Actually Profitable or Just a Slogan

This strikes me as an important point: marketing to marketers is different, so the degree of a company's success in using a particular marketing strategy to reach marketers doesn't necessarily imply the strategy's usefulness in reaching other groups.

Re: Replacing 70 million consumers with 35 million

Booking the TV shows now…

Re: Replacing 70 million consumers with 35 million

Clearly, we're expected to spend twice as much, which will be easy, since the Boomers are known for their thrift and we're making so much more.

Re: Website redesign tips and reminders: The new Geofeedia.com

+1

Re: Website redesign tips and reminders: The new Geofeedia.com

Yes!
