This is how most people vote. I don't understand why this way needs defending, other than to point out when it's taking place. Or, rather, who thinks of politics as a mechanical process?&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Politics ought to be about policies and voting records. I oppose Ron Paul, despite his good ACLU score, not because of how I judge his character, but because he is a libertarian, which means concrete (and nutty/misguided) policy views.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I wish there was much more rational, self-interested voting.
