I agree wholeheatedly. 100%. The truth is what you dont invest in you dont get much out. That is why people on paid courses actually do the work vs the freebies that get 100's of free ebooks by sigining up to different newsletters and end up not reading or applying them.

Re: Beyond time management: The science behind why we procrastinate and how to finally stop

Hi Beth

I really battle with this one, some really solid advice. I like points 6 and 7 especially. Using events as timers and doing a less scary task rather than going for a time waster to feel good just for now. Awesome advice. :)

Re: Want to be more productive? To be honest i find writing convenient, but my writing is not very legible even to myself. I like the hybrid and refresh approach. You have given me a lot to think about thanks.

Re: What’s really wrong with Squarespace Logo

Yawn

Benjie good article

I never feel threatened by services like these. The way I see the industry is as follows:

A) 70% are fly by nights who have learned a few skills and try to make a quick buck
B) 20% are very well skilled and pick up work from new clients and from the 70% that did a poor job and now need a proper job done.
C) World class agencies, don't really have competition, deal with big name brands.

Conclusion: Group A the cheapsters and freebies keep my workflow busy so I am happy. If you are good at what you do, you will always get work. :)

Re: Getting Started With the New Myspace: What Businesses Need to Know

Really.... I had to come back and comment on. I really love the money spending rationale you expressed in the beginning of this blog post.

For me saving money at the cinema, has resulted in investing in a led, 42 inch flat screen. Sure i wait for movies to come out, but my own mini home theater system fills the gap and costs a whole lot less. I did the math and found that if I just saved the money... the flat screen was the way to go.

Besides while i love the cinema is not cool when its overcrowded.

Re: The Art Of Getting More Retweets [Infographic]

Thanks Francisco, this is a great share. I started out as many have before and after me with the attitude that "the internet has an answer to any question so why pay for it ?" Over time and you tend to migrate to the better resources on the web as you become more familiar with whats available and realize an important fundamental truth...

The guys that keep looking for freebies don't get anywhere, the one's willing to pay to learn get somewhere.

Its is... and is not... that the information you learn is something that you already know. I think it is more about learning that the person that is teaching you have an audience, generate income and they do it well.

I hope that makes sense... So for me in essence what you learn from them is the essence that makes them tick and ultimately what makes them successful. And that knowledge is worth its weight in gold.

You want to be better, stop being a cheap skate and pay for the good stuff, you wont regret it. Every course i have bought has blown me away, made more people interested in what i have to say and increased sales.

Great post Chris...

Re: A Change In How I Send Out Information

I am going to agree with @20Martin_Pigg here. Overtime i have built and tweaked my questions that i will ask a client. The one for web design is different for logo or brochure design etc...One of the most time saving things that i have done is ask what websites/ or logo's they like. By allowing the client to point to brands they already admire its easier to build a design that satisfy the client.

Re: Google Analytics Advanced Segments

I stumbled onto this from your guest post on think traffic, which i found on social media examiner, i definitely need to look at my metrics on google analytics and do some tweaking. You nailed this one neatly on the head. excuse the pun but if one doesn't use the box method well we tend to get all boxed up.

I found this method especially helpful when i am designing websites, everything has to be collected and plan in bite size chunks. As will all technical jobs, you can loose track from time to time.

So repackaging your schedule so to speak using the box method is imperative from time to time. This method can be applied from the smallest goals, to a busy daily schedule to a long term project.

Great Post, I am always benefiting form your sage wisdom. :)

Re: The mistakes killing your conversion rate

Hi Rich

You definitely nailed a few points home here. I think that a good way design a websites is to literally guide your visitors like taking a tour. I use goals in Google analytic's to track if they are following that path, it also helps you know at which point your tour is broken.

Usability is a massive issue i feel that is often ignored in favor of fancy effects. It doesn't mean that one cannot use subtle effects on the website, but they must aid your purpose, not just look pretty.

Lastly browser incompatibility is a big one, as a website designer you probably think.." it would be so much easier if we just had one browser to design for".

Re: How to monetize design with no clients

Some great ideas are expressed here, I believe the essence of the message is to stay true to being an entrepreneur. This simply means we need to think out of the box, get create and don't give up.

As a creative individual this shouldn't be too hard. However i find that the real essence of why many designers fall flat is because they lack the skills in marketing. To be able to market yourself is the life blood of any organisation.

Great insights Kendra

Re: What Percentage Of Your Twitter Following Is Fake?
