Agree; the happiest Android adopters I've seen in personal life have been female, they've selected it without badgering, and their universal comment has been "why did I put up with the iPhone for all this time". Anecdotal, but in the world of a geek, instructive.

I did something slightly different; I had a problem that the Gimp module supported "officially" in CPAN does not support Gimp 2+, which is what I'm running. The answer in CPAN is to install is using the explicit path in CPAN below the Author ID.

This meant a change in the way the install-cpan method needed to be called, and it takes advantage of the ability to specify a name => value on the calling side of the equation which in effect makes it an optional argument.

Nice post Kim; great to have services like this coming out of AU. It is so frustrating to want to try things - GrandCentral comes to mind here, and while not telco related, Hulu and Pandora are frustrations too - that aren't really a goer because we're in AU.

Lets hope they support Windows Mobile 6+ before too long; a bit strange having technology, not geography holding me back on a mobile service!

Congrats Stephen on the "acquisition"; many VC's want to take 50% in a decent sized round, and getting access to Grahame's contacts should be a good thing. Sure, 5x isn't massive, but if you're still holding a decent percentage and the new capital, exposure and support can grow the business 20x times in an otherwise crowed market, you'll still be singing all the way to the bank...

I know! Lets give a fistful of cash to the local car industry. They're inefficient, choose to manufacture cars that no-one wants (if public agencies didn't have to buy them, no one would), and we'll wrap it up in some BS about a "green" initiative.

Imagine how far $2.5B in corporate welfare would go for our more agile and competitive, and less polluting, knowledge sectors would go. And if they're not going to hand out cash to startups - which would be terrible in my view - at least provide some CGT cash breaks to make it more appealing for Angels to back our entrepreneurs.
