I don't think it's the end of the world if one fails, certainly not! Most successful people today have experienced it at some point, I just don't think it's a good mentality to start out with thinking "well it's okay if I fail, i will just try again". The way I see it, failure is only acceptable if you examine what has caused it, and use it to your advantage next time around. But then again...that's just me.

Re: The “Start your own start-up” Compass

This is true. Too many times, I see people get overly obsessive about little details and trying to get everything perfect before they launch. Usually however, the market really decides how your startup will function anyway. Thanks for sharing your thoughts :)

Re: The “Start your own start-up” Compass

agreed. thanks for the input!

Re: Outsourcing

For a lot of the bootstrapped companies still trying to build a customer base, i think it's common place to see them out source some part of the software development, especially creation of apps. On the other hand, it's at that stage the company (founder and whoever else they have on board) should personally respond to all emails and phone calls they get. This stage is called the "user base" building stage after all, so not only are you improving relationship with the (few)-totally engage-able audience you have, you can use that opportunity to get feedback. Feedback that in the long run will affect how successful you will be with your target market.

Re: How To Find Early Adopters For Your Start-up

Glad you liked it!

Re: How To Find Early Adopters For Your Start-up

Thanks you so much for the kind words!

Re: 5 Top Tips for Using Social Media to Help Launch Your New Business

Yeah, i liked the book as well. The weekly stat email they send does two things:
1.) show you your stats obviously and
2.) Take you back to your acct on their site.

The 2nd point it huge as far as I a concerned, since I never really go to their site except sometimes when I see the stats email and click on it so I can get a broader perspective. good marketing.

Re: Welcome To Videfy

Ah! No one is an island really and you can't know it all. Like you said the key thing is to know you strengths and weaknesses. Rather than attempting to do it all and come up with average(at best) results, it does pay to outsource.

Re: Social Media Lessons For Startups

It's really about immersing yourself in it all. My advise is to start relating with as many people in your niche as possible on these social networks, seek advice (because getting the best out of social media isnt as easy as people make it out to be) and stay active! The more you spread the word about your biz, the more people know about you and if your product is good, things can really take off.

Re: Why Having A Job Compliments Your Startup Dream

Thank you.

Re: What we can all learn from failed startups

Thanks Kat, there's isn't one specific site I go to honestly, I just read a bunch of blogs, tech websites and do twitter search of stories about startups. I follow sites/blogs like onstartups, techcrunch, mashable, venturebeat, inc, startuppro, paulgraham.com to name a few.

Re: Your To-Do List Before Venturing into Business

Absolutely Ted, It all comes down to actually getting it done, but people rush into business too quickly that they forget to "look left, right and then left again" before they make their move. It takes a looong time people you generate the deserved buzz about your product if you are not pro-active about spreading the word. what do you reckon?
