Interesting that Audi is ignoring the Toyota Land Cruiser and the Ineos Grenadier. Nissan still sells a rugged successor to the Nissan Patrol / Safari / Armada as well, just not in Western Europe.

Re:

Being able to engage further out prevents the need for sustained engagement closer in. The name comes from their use at the Battle of Balaclava during the Crimean War of 1854, referring to the town near Sevastopol in the Crimea, where British troops there wore knitted headgear to keep warm. Handmade balaclavas were sent over to the British troops to help protect them from the bitter cold weather. British troops required this aid, as their own supplies (warm clothing, weatherproof quarters, and food) never arrived in time. So not quite the cultural appropriation that you might think.

Re: BRI can help bind Britain’s economic Brexit wounds - Global Times

Interesting article but it needs to take into account:
- Given the UK's role in China's century of shame, is this in China's interest?
- The UK doesn't have manufactured products that China would be that interested in. The UK has a current account deficit on an ongoing basis
- Chinese investment needs to be more cautious and the UK has interfered in Chinese investment on nuclear power.
- EU countries offer China better opportunities for win-win progress along BRI.

Re: It's Time for an RSS Revival

@ha@Hacked2123 Amen hombre. She has a right to a bad day. However when she weighed into the Naomi Wu / Vice Media dispute; her contribution damaged some of the feminist and progressive viewpoints that she herself supports. As an international Wired subscriber I find it difficult to support her particularly aggressive form of American privilege. Ms Jeong used her skill in rhetoric to hide her lack of expertise in the legal and online social environment of China.

Re: "Game of Thrones’" Aidan Gillen to play comedian Dave Allen | IrishCentral.com

Lilly Allen's dad is Keith Allen - neither were related to Dave Allen

Re: the power of a universal login – a history lesson from my time at Yahoo - part 2

Hi Alick,

It's been a while! I suspect that Wolff is right to be downbeat when you have hedge fund managers and Silicon Valley CEOs becoming 'preppers' with farms and private air strips in New Zealand. President Xi's speech on globalisation said all the right things, but China continues to take a 'Hotel California' approach to free trade in many sectors of its economy (with some very good reasons, but still). Prime minster May came off her Brexit announcement and the response to her speech was mainly out of politeness - the reality is that she is whistling in the dark to keep Little England's spirits up. I guess its finally time to open that New Zealand office!

Re: Information Processing: "Forest City": $100 billion bet next to Singapore

It may attract hot mainland money

Re: Something Different

Using the wrong name (consistently) for a German client - somehow I managed to get away with it.
