It's just a matter of time till many of these will become mainstream... as you said though, the players we say today might not be the ones that rule the market in the next few years.

Re: 10 Ways To Find New Speakers For Your Events

Yes, though diversity depends also on the scope of the event (but even if it's very focused on one specific topic diversity can be applied).

Re: The Best Conferences For The Rest of 2012

Thanks George

Re: SXSW PanelPicker

Part of my everyday work as a marketer. I haven't come across one yet, but no doubt it was more my (mis)fortune.

I'm glad to hear about your bureau's approach and who knows, we might be doing business one of these days!

Re: Seth Godin And A Non-Hybrid Event Worth Attending

In fact, what you note is crucial. It's not about hybrid or not-hybrid but about asking the right questions and then implement whatever is needed to satisfy the ultimate goal (no, not financial success but providing value to the audience, the rest comes after). The solution might be a mix of digital and physical channels and experiences (I've taken part in some all-digital events that were perfect for certain things... I'm just in general against the "shiny" technology just for the sake of it... and do consider that I'm a geek!).

Re: no one showing up at Seth's event... He's been a speaker several times at one of my past companies and I've never seen an empty seat during his sessions ;-)

Re: Seth Godin And A Non-Hybrid Event Worth Attending

Thanks for commenting William. I do believe that a "hybrid" solution that adds value is possible but I'm kind of tired of the over-use of the term and of so many organizers that try to revamp a mediocre experience as if the "hybrid" status were the be-all and the end-all solution... without focusing on analyzing what could add value to their specific audience and what how.

What I like from Seth's approach is that he clearly identifies what is valuable for his audience (related to the themes that will be discussed and the experience he wants to offer) and acts to enhance that, eliminating fancy distractions. ;-)

Re: How to Disrupt Your Conference by Luke Williams (NYU – Stern School of Business)

Thanks Lori!

Re: A Presentation From 2023 Looks Quite Like 2012

That's a good one!

Re: Use Pinterest As A Virtual Directory Of Speaker And Attendee Profiles

As an example to my previous comment, I'm creating a board with many of the event organizers I've met http://pinterest.com/gchicc.... Many of the photos are taken from the web (about half were taken by myself at their events, pre-Pinterest) but it's an excelent visual aid for when I need to see who is doing what and where.

Re: Use Pinterest As A Virtual Directory Of Speaker And Attendee Profiles

Thanks for your feedback Kyle.

While I agree that Pinterest is cool NOW (and for that reason it creates an opportunity), I actually think that doing the Attendee Faceroll board is probably the best use you could give it.

Why?
1) It's super easy to create a board with photographs of the attendees when they arrive to the event (just provide the staff at the registration area an iOS device)
2) As an user, it's easy to browse through a board to see who is actually there and also how they look like (as opposed to the avatars that many people have in their online profiles or the photos they provide to the organizers, which are usually old, "creative" or non representative of the person)
3) To browse a board, the users don't need to have the app installed and can also do it from their laptop/tablet
4) The organizer does not need to have a dedicated app for their event (many event organizers cannot afford one)

What would make it a bit better?
If you could create private boards and share the password only with the attendees. But many events don't care about keeping their network of attendees secret (after all, you're not offering contact info and you really need to be present at the event to meet them) and in fact it could even be a way to show off who attended.

So far Pinterest does not add any sort of ads to their site (at least I never got them).
