It would give them a warning to the scrutiny that awaits them.

Re: Sunday Setlists & Meredith Andrews Contest

I was on vacay today, but my church did...

-Here for You
-God Be Praised
-Jesus We Love You

Re: 3 Keys to Choosing Great Worship Songs

I would also add that every church is different. I've been in 3 different churches in ministry, and each one has a different library of songs. The few that have crossed over to each church for me are those timeless songs that seem to touch a chord everywhere. I look for those kind of songs more than anything.

Re: 3 Keys to Choosing Great Worship Songs

Thanks Don...I hear what you're saying. I do believe there are exceptions to this, but not that many. We have to remember that corporate worship isn't about doing good songs. It's about leading our church to worship the Lord. I think my point of view is an attempt towards balance. There are a lot of churches that are using songs that are not singable for the average person. The problem is not that we're dumbing down too much. The problem is the focus can be on music more than people. Just because songs are easy to sing does not mean they're not good. In my experience, songs that are not singable can turn your crowd into spectators, instead of being engaged and singing. I'm a songwriter, so I love good songs with complicated melody lines, but they're generally not always conducive to corporate worship. I hope you hear my heart...I'm not always right, but this is my heart. Thanks again for the comment.

Re: Gary Durbin Blog: Worship Leading Remedies for the Christmas Hangover

That's a great song, Karen. True, true. For your third point, I would agree, if you're in a smaller church. I'm in a church of 1,000 with 3 services, and I would say, for me it's more like 75% teaching on stage. The opportunity for off stage teaching is naturally much lower. I rely on small groups and discipleship for that and that's a small percentage, but a healthy process, as well.

Re: “The Local Church Is Dying!!!” and a few other myths we tell ourselves to make us feel like little saviors.

true, excellent and inspiring words. thanks for the reminder. who do we think we are? :)

Re: Gary Durbin Blog: Worship Leading Tips: TEACHING A SONG

Most definitely!
