The tapes I remember having first were Bone's Creepin on ah Come Up, which I listened to through the extra-bright yellow Walkman.

Re: Hit Me on the Hip 3.0: Google Voice, Skype and Ribbit Mobile

I've been using Google Voice exclusively for a few weeks now, and I'm very happy with it. I had a GrandCentral (Google Voice's acquired predecessor) account back in the day, but I kept it dormant until recently.

I have an iPhone. The lack of a native app is cumbersome, but tolerable. You can't make phone calls without service anyway, and 95% of the time when I have voice service, I have data service. The web app is responsive.

The SMS integration that allows me to receive the text messages on my phone and respond to them within the native Messages app is great. Totally seamless.

The most kludgey part of my setup is the fact that I use Google Apps for my contacts. I am using a 3rd party service, Soocial (www.soocial.com) to sync my Google Apps contacts with my straight Gmail contacts, which in turn are used in Google Apps. Hopefully, when Google Apps becomes available for apps customers, I'll be able to remove this step.

Biggest weakness is the voice mail transcription. Great idea, but it's 0% accurate. This will get better over time.

Re: Is Posterous the New TwitPic?

I absolutely love the Posterous service as a way to share across all social media. Their robust API also opens the door for all sorts of applications to be built on top of their personal publishing platform.

Re: PR Lies Destroy Your Understanding of How Business Really Works. – With Owen Byrne

The "luck as probability" comment remind me of a quote by Michael Jordan:

"You miss 100% of the shots you don't take."

Re: How Twitter is Dethroning the Old Guard

The "just-ask-your-Twitter-followers" as a replacement for search point is wrong 9 out of 10 times it's presented. That is only a solution if you're asking a question relevant to your batch of followers.

For example, if I have a bunch of followers that are members of my same book club, asking them what web host I should use is like asking them what rocket ship I should buy.

The problem is that search [on Google, Twitter, or any other engine lacking semantic capability] is done without context. For Google, the context is my intent. For Twitter, the context is my follwers.

Re: Why I’m not voting for Barack

You are absolutely right that the "lesser of 2 evils" politics only leads to consistenly more evil.

I'd encourage anyone in a non-swing state to do this as well.

Re: Would You Tell Me Who You Voted For? › According to Garlin

Hi Monica,

That's a fair point. There already are some fairly strict rules on what can be done to/with information on how people voted. For instance, it can be sold to the Parties, who use it to create Voter Files of people to call for future elections. I believe also that they can be used for research purposes by educational entities. If this info was to become commercially available, that would be cause for alarm.

Re: Live Blogging – Howard Dean at Netroots Nation

Hi, this is Garlin Gilchrist II, a co-founder of The SuperSpade: Black Thought at the Highest Level. Brandon and I started the site back in November 2005 with a goal of raising the level of Black political discourse by presenting both current events analysis and higher level perspectives on broad issues in the social, political, and cultural realm.

You can see more on our About page @ http://www.thesuperspade.co... which says:

The SuperSpade: Black Thought at the Highest Level, the communications arm of Powerful Holdings, is a forum that presents critical, intellectual perspectives on the current issues. The goal of this space is to provide actionable commentary on social, political, and personal issues affecting the daily lives of individuals. We tie issues to people’s everyday decisions, so that they can then use these decision points and opportunities to create change. Since November 9, 2005, The SuperSpade has been energizing and mobilizing young people across the country, encouraging intellectual discourse on current events, as well as meaningful actions to help the community.

We have for a long time been a friend of Jack and Jill Politics and the many other strong, Black progressive voices online.

Check us out.

One Love. One II.
