I'm surprised the Samsung S4 outsold the HTC One, given the Samsung is frankly a cheap feeling plastic nondescript phone full of half-baked gimmicks which nobody ends up using. Is there more context behind those numbers? And the obvious followup question is, why would Apple customers care more about aesthetics and precision engineering compared with customers of other handsets?

In the days where Samsung systematically ripped off the iPhone 3G I could understand people buying it, but since they settled on basic vanilla designs, why would anyone opt for that over an HTC One?

I dont find this unsurprising. Samsung with a new phone outsold the iPhone at the end of its product cycle. Lets see how the next quarter pans out.

Would take more than a cheap looking rip of iOS with a fragmented virus infested marketplace to tempt me away from the iPhone, given the investment I've made in apps and accessories.

I'm surprised that given the Apple haters made fun of the iPad for being an oversized iPhone are now raving about a phone with an oversized screen. Nice if you have Shrek sized hands though.

Apple seems undecided on their colour profiles. A while back in a OS update for my Macbook Pro (may have been from Leopard to Snow Leopard, I forget now) it changed from cool to warm. Or vice versa. I don't even know which one it currently is. It's one of those things you don't usually notice unless you have each profile one side-by-side. In my case I switched back and forth between colour profiles in Settings and then the warm vs cool change is very noticable. Then after a while your eyes adjust and it's hard to tell which is which.

Basically it's a non issue. Likely depends on the default colour profile file shipping with iOS 5, rather than the hardware itself.

if mediocre is having the best hardware design and the best quality apps, I'll take mediocre every time.

Apple arent about churning out superficially remoulded designs. They invest heavily in a design and stick with it for a while, just like the rest of their product line.

Every game I've tried on Android is slower than on iPhone. They're not exactly making the most of the battery sucking overclocked CPUs. The UI is smoother on iPhone too - because OSX is heavily OpenGL optimised where as Android was a rehash of their WindowsCE-looking OS rushed to vaguely resemble iOS. Ask anyone who has developed for both platforms - iOS is fundamentally better designed. Not to mention the Android app store is full of spyware.

I don't see anything as good as iMovie on Android, nor Pages, nor any of Apple's other apps. The camera on Android isn't as good and much slower and less polished. The accessories are vastly more numerous for iPhone. Just about every metric has iPhone ahead, and no amount of cramming giant screens into a phone will change that (people like to use their phone single handed in case you hadn't noticed - iPhone adopted capacitive screens for a reason). There's a reason iPhone easily scores higher than every Android phone in every customer satsifaction survey and that's because it's anything other than mediocre.

Yes Android gives freedom for manufacturers to customise and force uninstallable apps on the user like has happened. It gives manufacturers the freedom to try and finish the UI job. It gives virus writers unfettered freedom to distribute spyware.

Apple designs a holistic device to be used. They don't make a rushed hacked together copy of an OS and leave it open to others to finish the job. Different philosophy.

Apple use a 3.5" screen because it's the upper limit of what can be used with one hand. And plenty people use phones single handedly for most common tasks.

Apple always easily beat Samsung is satisfaction surveys.

Apple's app store has by far the most polished apps. Where there's an equivalent game on Android it always runs smoother on the iPhone.

The iPhone has a vastly superior user experience and app polish. Equivalent Android apps look hacked together by comparison. Try upgrading the firmware on iPhone and compare with Android (with its manual backup/restore) and It's like night and day.

Android appeals to the same demogaphic as PC nerds who them try to inflct their choice on others who don't care to hack their phone into a usable shape and just prefer to get stuff done.

The iPhone hardly lags behind Android phones, anymore than Macs lag behind PCs. They have a yearly refresh for the latest CPU/graphics. Hardly rocket science.

Android phones sell on a feature list. iPhones sell something to be used. Case in point, some Android phones try to squeeze a fat camera which bulges out with unsightly spec advertising all over it. Apple will always use a more compact descrete camera. Android phones will fit a larger screen even if its less pocketable and forces two handed use. The iPhone's screen is the upper limit for single handed use and makes much more sense.

Apple are suing Samsung because Samsung systematially copied from Apple. I was stunned when I walked into a phone shop some time back and saw a Samsung handset the spitting image of an iPhone 3g - the overall design even down to the crome rim, home screen with 4 icon dock - the whole thing was a direct rip. Samsung have copied Apple's cable connectors, packaging. Just ridiculous. Apple are absolutely entitled to be pissed that a company bigger than several top Japanese tech companies combined can't even do their own innovating. Then when Android makers put slightly fresher CPU/graphics etc mid iPhone product cycle then pretend Apple are copying at the R&D level it's absurd.

The only reason Android was given a platform is because Apple didn't offer cheaper handsets to shut out the competition, like they did with the iPod. Android is a half assed rip of iOS. I upgraded the firmware on an Android handset and it was 10 times the steps of iOS - convoluted mess. The UI is convoluted and fragmented. Nothing is considered or holistic. The app store is full of spyware and pseudo apps to bulk up the numbers.

If someone wants a genuine alternative to iOS then look at Microsoft's offering. At least they innovated.

They mentioned in the keynote there is a dedicated processor segment on the chip itself which Siri makes use of. This is why it's not available for iPhone 4 or even the iPad.

No better than the comment you were rightly debunking.

I'd like to see Flash in iOS 4 as a Click-to-play feature, like ClickToFlash for Safari. Apple were right IMHO to omit it initially but Adobe have been working on optimising it for mobile. Disabling Flash until touched would be a nice half-way measure. I certainly wouldn't want Flash enabled by default though.

Yes, I think Islam is a violent religion. I gave some quotes above but there are hundreds more which prove the Quran promotes violence.

That there are so many decent people who claim to be Muslim just shows those people do not get their ethics from the Quran. It's the more impressionable and dictators who enforce it literally which is the problem.

Freedom of religion does not equal freedom to force religion on everyone else. Religion must be kept out of government.

You saying I'm suggesting it's unique to the world is yet again, you inserting words for effect. My opinion holds true for all religions across all countries.

If you can't make basic points without resorting to personal jabs every time, don't expect others to give you mindshare.

I don't recall saying they don't currently have a dictatorship, or that they're not corrupt, or that they don't need a regime change. But if inserting words helps prop up your own reply then feel free.

Replacing one corrupt dictatorship with a dramatically more radicalised dictatorship is not what's needed, unless you want another Iran on your hands.

Where is the link to the cable in question?

Have the impressionable readers actually paused to read the cable in question, pondered why The Telegraph hid the link, whether there's any nuances in the cable for the date it was originally agreed, by whom, whether anyone from UK was complicit, and so on.

The Telegraph has a poor record for creating a storm and then shuffling along before other people clarify "misunderstandings". So I'd like much more information before flapping around.

worth noting that the nicer shoulder strap shown in the video review does not come as standard. It's an optional extra.
