It is so hard to be a conservative in California. Nothing we do or say matters. Even though I live in a fairly conservative area, the liberal governance of California controls everything. I can't leave because my work is here. Have some sympathy people!

What happens with political artists is this: I like their music or movies or tv or whatever, then they start preaching their political views. They do not know more than I do so I bear it for a while. Eventually, I am unable to separate their art and their politics, so I turn them off and I no longer listen or watch because I am distracted by their politics. Artists have to decide who they want to be and what they want to do with their art. I have lost some of my favorite artists because of this regular occurrence.

President Obama and his Chicago friends run a mean campaign.
President Obama had the entire (NFM) hiding his mistakes and failures and exaggerating and misstating every Romney statement.

If they truly did not have the information that this was an attack, then the administration is incompetent. This is a critical issue in this time of international turmoil. Who in the mainstream press will investigate and get the information?

First of all, Church is FOR people who need the repentance process. It is not aimed at perfect people. If it were, none of us could attend. The LDS Church is a wonderful place where people join together to worship Christ. There are many opinions in our congregations, however, we are constantly counseled to avoid political proselyting unlike other churches. I am grateful that the LDS Church has been there for me and my family over many years.

Why would you say that? What facts do you have to suggest that Mitt Romney has broken any laws (Nixon)? Or what is there in his character that you think will cause him to do that in the future? This is an appalling ad hominem attack that tells me that you do not have enough information and are basing your opinion on your "feelings". Good luck with that approach to selecting leaders.

It's not free Aisha. Others are being forced to pay for it. Romney has never said that he wants to take away the ability to obtain an abortion in the case of rape or incest. But if I believe that a life exists inside the woman, I guess your view is that I should just shut up and go away. Apparently, my sincere view about life means that I don't love women. I will make sure to let my amazing wife of 35 years, my three beautiful daughters-in-law and my sweet little grand-daughter know this about me. I don't think that they realize it yet.

Newt makes it hard on himself when he tells everyone, during the last debate, that we should analyze Romney's record at Bain to see if he did anything (not illegal) but about which we might not approve. He said that we should look at a candidate for president's values and morals to determine his fitness for the office. I don't approve it on this basis, but it seems like it complies with Newt's prescription.
The real question here is whether it is fair to withhold information. Does that act impair the vote in SC? I would rather have everything disclosed than have the press decide what I am entitled to know and when I am entitled to know it.

Janet – I often doodle in my daytimer while I am in meetings. I can actually listen to a speaker and do that. I think it helps me to concentrate. This doesn’t seem to me to be punishable by death. Same thing with checking my email. In today’s world, if you are not checking your blackberry during a boring meeting, I think many people would think you are wasting time, not being efficient. There is a difference between charting a new strategy and sitting in a seat listening to a speaker. I have a hard time believing that if this happened to someone you know, or admire, that you would take the same position. I do not know this State Senator, but I know that if this happened to anyone I know, I would want to give them the benefit of the doubt. Dem or Rep. I hope no one sends you any inappropriate emails! First, let me be very clear, I do not condone pornography and I especially do not approve of it on the employer’s dime. And second, let me also say that I enjoy your site and have checked in here regularly to see your “African American centrist” thoughts on current events. That said, whatever happened to an honest reporting of the facts? This guy gives his explanation. You have apparently decided that his answer is unacceptable and unreasonable. Back up a minute. If it is true, and who has not received an inappropriate email, do you want to destroy someone’s career and reputation based on your assumption that he is a liar? Why does he not get the benefit of the doubt? If there are other examples of his venality, maybe that would explain your view. But your article does not mention any of those.

You say, as a fact, that this is how he “spends his time working”. Really? How do you know that? How much time does he spend on porn? If this is the level of factual support you employ to reach your opinions, I will be unable to have much confidence in your other opinions. You also note that “he stared at the screen”. Really? I don’t see that from the back of his head on this brief video. In fact, it looks like he saw the picture and shut it down pretty quickly, maybe 3 seconds.

Our tendencies to jump to conclusions, no matter the consequences, has been damaging to our attempts to discuss and debate. “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.” That’s one of the big ten!

The lawyer in me argues that the person who enters into a contract has a duty to fulfill it. The husband in me says, please do not encourage infidelity and relationships outside marriage. Don't place more of a burden on marriage than the government already does. Good article.

I am not sure what you are saying. Do you think that my stated opposition to Senator Obama's election wasn't really because I disagreed with him about abortion policy, gay marriage policy, economic policy? You seem to make the assumption that I actually had racist reasons. Is that what you meant to say? I imagine that there were such people somewhere. I was not one. Regarding the specific anti-religion ads, I admit that it is slightly shocking to me to see it. But I believe that they have the right to buy advertising time and space as long as I can do the same.

you are right of course, but he wasn't 80 and living in another country with no power. i think that the problem is that there will always be people on the fringe of society with stupid and wrong ideas. why do we let the press drag them out from under their rock so that all the crazies can unite? please don't think that there are very many emmerichs in the united states...
