No longer would someone’s ethnicity or education or class or gender determine whether or not they had a reasonable home to sleep in, food to eat or medical care when they needed it. We need a system that does not rely on the kindness of some to bring cans to a food bank. That type of system is unreliable; vulnerable to the waning generosity of individuals. It is time for us to recognize that in our society not all are born with equal opportunity and that achieving equality has little to do with bootstraps.

As Bill Moyer said: Charity is commendable; everyone should be charitable. But justice aims to create a social order in which, if individuals choose not to be charitable, people still don’t go hungry, unschooled or sick without care. Charity depends on the vicissitudes of whim and personal wealth; justice depends on commitment instead of circumstance.

The personal power some would give up to make this a reality is minor when compared to the strength of the society it would foster.

Re: O H H E L L O .

This is completely disgusting/great. Basically I figure at any given time, 15 people can see from upstairs and that is assuming at least half of them are tall.

That said the show was the terrific. The Scholars were at their best and Macklemore completely won me over. That was the first time I saw him and he was fierce.

Re: O H H E L L O .

Dance party battle scars!

Re: O H H E L L O .

I had one of those in Ecuador after a mirror-meets-head incident.
