You probably don't remember, but I'm an engineer by training. EleQtra sounds like an AMAZING JOB. I'm hoping to visit Kampala sometime this year. Do you think I'd be able to tag along one day to work and see the projects in action?!

Re: The Concrete Jungle

Fantastic! Of all the things to talk about in terms of Nairobi, you choose this? Was I really that bad of a host? =]

In all seriousness, Al-Shabaab is likely not responsible for the grenade attack and I highly doubt they were involved in the Dadaab or coast kidnappings. Somali pirates and Al-Shabaab are not the same and there Nairobi and Dadaab instances could just as easily have been the act of displeased, frustrated, and desperate Kenyans. That said, clearly things are heating up here in Nairobi, but please do also mention the good things about my host city (like giraffes that kiss you!) too!

Re: Grenade attack on Nairobi disco injures 14

As Kenya has declared war against Al-Shabaab and sent troops to invade Somalia, their police force have to be on the same page with their statements. The truth is, Al-Shabaab is usually pretty up front when they are responsible for an attack, such as the 2010 Kampala bombing. They've denied all connections with any of the recent kidnappings and attacks. Al-Shabaab is also pretty land-based, which is why I doubt their connection with the coast kidnappings. Within Dadaab camp, while it is true that there are AS defectors and sympathizers in the area, there is also a tense relationship with the host community as they see millions of dollars of aid going to refugees while they are passed over. As for the grenade incidences in Nairobi, both seemed to be rather impromptu and not well-planned. I imagine that someone outside of AS is taking advantage of the fear building up in the city. It's certainly not an ideal situation, and there may well be a future attack by AS, but for now, I think many things are being pinned on them that are actually caused by other actors that the Kenyan government should also be worried about and reacting to. Unfortunately, their new "war on terror" smacks a bit too much of the US's "war on terrorism" and I'm not sure if they will put attention domestically as they should.

Re: http://blog.frankiewarren.com/post/13447750987

Haha, the Christmas Carol's concert get you inspired?

Re: http://eugenialee.tumblr.com/post/17720459077

What's fascinating to me about the mkokoteni is how often there is one person pulling the cart while his friend sleeps on top of the jerricans being hauled...

Re: WHAT IS UP THERE ON TOP OF THAT TREE?

Ah, but have you found the A Team amongst the DVD stack? =]
