For me, I believe that the root cause of the problem was my shoes.

I had started to wear these slip-on all-weather moccasins instead of lace-up shoes. They were very comfortable, however, they did not give my foot a lot of support - especially when I moved laterally. After a few months, I would get these shooting pains up my heels when I would make certain lateral movements. YIKES!

Of course I did the stretching, icing, massaging, etc. once I had PF and after a few months it went away. No more spikes of pain shooting up my heels! Hooray!

However, I also now make sure that all of my shoes give me good support. The all-weather mocs when bye-bye. My sandals all have a strap around the back of my heel (i.e. no birkenstocks, crocs, flip flops etc. that slip off the heel). I also started to use arch supports in my dress shoes, running shoes and sneakers. I got orthotics from my podiatrist but they are too firm and I don't like them much...start with good arch supports - like Superfeet - before you throw down tons of $$$ on orthotics.

I think I remember you posted on your blog about wearing Crocs. This could be the culprit... Just my $0.02
