Do you have any photos of this biblical swarm? I got goosebumps when you said the ground was swarming. Ugh. But the best part has got to be the last line: "1. Dig in. 2. Surround yourself with good people. 3. Go forward with gusto." I shall print this out in large letters and post it in my office...I think it will definitely help me through my next bad week. XOXO.

Re: Kizunguzungu

Lindsey,
Thanks for sharing this eye opening experience with all of us. We periodically test the quality of our water (ph, fecal, etc), but not the water table. That's interesting though...will have to look into it.
Committees are voted by the community to run the well, and yes, people are charged a fee which contributes to the maintenance fund of the well.

Re: Transitions and Training

Funny you should mention that...the 80's flick I mentioned has a substantial portion filmed in Phil

Re: Transitions and Training

Haha, yeah. Out of curiosity, are you also putting in sensors with the wells to monitor water table / aquifer levels?

Who/how is managing this resource? I know i need a reality check like this to realize the kind of infrastructure-privileged life I life. It interests me that in the rural Phil for instance they were all over the sanitation issue. I'm glad it was an effective teaching tool. Was it dubbed in the local language or did someone have to translate it real time? I'm looking forward to reading your future updates. You will do great out there and I am so excited about how much you're going to learn in the process. We were watching daily and taking pictures to mark progress and same time, feeling bad for the parents who, selflessly, worked so hard to raise their young - Witnessed the chicks have had their beaks opened constantly for feeding - the weary really got no rest!

Then one morning, 14 days after hatching, the nest was left with one baby robin. Because this was the baby of the brood, and the last one to leave the nest, we watched it more closely - fixated infront of the window watching the baby fluttering its wings attempting to take flight, on and off again.

The next morning the nest was empty, and we were wondering where it went. Then we spotted it perching on another branch with its parent watching from a higher one. It "walked" back and forth, back and forth ...

I got tired of watching and left the window. Later on, when I returned, the robins were gone.

This scenario vividly reminded me on how you must feel with your Kuria family, having to let go though with the confidence that the people will sustain the programs that you and team had worked long and hard to develop, implement and now ... letting go ... as it must be for your vision to bear fruit

We pray for your success, one at a time, in areas where your vision, leadership, action ... will be needed again, and again...
Blessings,
Teresa

Re: Servant Leadership

I apologize if that will inconvenience you in any way...yay, I'm learning to be a great servant leader too~!
