Birkenstock can be resoled as long as the leather uppers are in good shape. I've had a set for nearly 20 years and on their 4 set of soles. The leather probably won't survive for a 5th, but thats pretty good!

One thing to worry about is vinegar can break down rubber hoses or gaskets. I did the vinegar bowl cleaning method and after wards there must of been some vinegar sitting in on of the hoses under the washer that goes to the motor. The next day it leaked. Luckily the hose was an easy part to replace. I also suspect it wasn’t only the vinegar as it was a common failure point on my model.

1. Varies - but in theory the area under the panels last long as they are protected
2. maybe?
3. 200-300 at current rates. Most are warrantied for 20-30 years
4. Not if installed correctly
5. Most are rated for severe winds and impact damage from hail should be covered by home owners insurrance.
6. Vandals? unlikely....but see above. Baseballs...see #5
7. No increase on my insurance. It was covered under the "20%" over value protection i have via Liberty Mutual.

I've emailed United positive and negative feedback in the same email for small things, not even expecting compensation. More of I want you to know X so you can fix it next time, it didn't really affect my flight experience, so FYI.

Sometimes i get $ vouchers or 2-10k miles.

They also seem to value 1K over the others. I was on a a flight with my wife (general member or maybe silver at the time) that had a mechanical delay after we had bored the plane. Maybe about 90 minutes to get it resolved (flying in BizFirst awards). When we landed we both had emails saying "sorry" with a link to claim a prize. I forget the values but mine was about 2-2.5x hers.

I think you have to balance what works best for you. I travel 200 nights a year so earning SPG points is a fairly quick affair and my wife and I enjoy their properties. If i was earning 80% of my spg points on personal spend, then I might re-evaluate my card strategy to focus on fixed earnings like you mentioned at 2%.

Matt Farah made a great point that with more and more engineering dedicated to safety and reducing road noise it is obvious that in cockpit engine noise will also be reduced greatly so they need to "pipe" it in. His recommendation is to move south and open the windows more.

I've been staffed in worse places. Houston has great food, decent night life and lots of travel options. But traffic in this town is terrible. F that. Thought the amount of red meat everywhere kind of makes up for it.
