Well if you wanna throw around more percentages, 50.8% of people in this country are women, 15% of leading speaking roles are women in movies. So...yeah.

I specifically said the survey referred to "all speaking roles including one liners" If you broke it down to percentages relatable, window-character protagonists, it would be WAY higher towards white males, I bet. Window characters are the ones people relate to and are touched by.

Sticking a taxi driver who is Indian in a show or movie for two lines doesn't make the audience feel that they can relate to that character. When have you seen a big mainstream movie with a Hispanic male lead? And according to that paper I referred to, 44% of moviegoers were Hispanic, so if you wanna play the numbers game, that's something to look at right there. And as far as the women's statistics...well, there is little way to defend that percentage-wise, but that's another post entirely haha.

It would be more interesting to see movies change to other kinds of people's POVs occasionally too. In the kind of popcorn movies we all love, not just fancy art films. That's all I'm saying.

I don't care who's in underwear (although that scene stood out as just weird to me because it was so hamfisted). They should have had Kirk unclothed more too, whatever. It's the lack of diversity in women featured in the movie, and that her character wasn't very memorable OTHER than being attractive, really. And her celery snapped leg, lol.

I don't believe women have to UN-Sexualize themselves, but make them MORE than that, and show VARIOUS TYPES of women. Make them have choices on their own, versus a vehicle for the leading man's interest. To strip women of their sexuality is to go the opposite extreme which is just as invalid.
