The telecom companies in UAE do not want VoIP to get serious footing in UAE and hurt their revenues and so they have blocked a lot of VoIP providers. You can try couple of options, try using the VPN option (use VoIP through a server outside UAE) or try using their smart dialer with a proxy. Let me know if these work...would love to hear your experience...

As you rightly point out, the 1ct is more of a gimmick. The actual cost is slightly higher than that. But given the reliability and the quality, I guess many of us would not mind paying slightly higher.

I bigger issue is whether you would exhaust the entire talk time in 1 month (coz you cannot carry forward the call credits). In case you are not able to utilize the entire calling credit, the rates will be much higher.

Yeah, I first dismissed it as a Betamax clone...very similar to Voipdiscount, Actionvoip, etc. To be fair, they have mentioned that this is a beta offer :)

I am not sure if I got your query correctly, but if you want to register your mobile phone to make calls directly, you could enter that in your account details. After you login to your account, click on "Personal Detail" in the left hand column and then enter the phone numbers that you want to register. Hope this helps...

You are right, SmartVoIP does not have a customer service. They are squeezing costs wherever possible. As regards payment, you do have option to pay through Paypal or your credit card. I have made several purchases using both the mechanisms and have never faced any issues.

You do not have to physically visit the reseller, you can buy the vouchers online. If you look in to your account under resellers, you will see a list of Betamax resellers. Most have a website where they accept payments (through secure gateways like paypal) and recharge your account.

As I mentioned in my post, I really have no problems with you trying to help the consumers by providing free calls. In fact, I really like that. If you read my earlier post on DialSimple, I had rated it favorably. I am just not impressed with the quality of offers. The offers that are available are similar to those you get in your SPAM folder, wherein you have to complete a few things to be eligible. I would really like you to give a serious thought. See if consumers are really using these offers and then how is it affecting your paying customers.

To an outsider, it does not appear credible. If you look at traditional ad based models (I have covered some on the site like CallingAmerica) they do not have a paid model, so people using those services do not intend to use the same service if they were to pay for it.

If you want to have both ad-based and paid model, there should be some synergy between them. Currently it does not appear to be so...

You are right, it used to work in the past. I have carried out several transactions using my credit card, but it seems they are having some issues now. They are not allowing credit cards/paypal to users across several countries, US being one of them.

I understand your concerns, but it if difficult for the company to estimate the charges that you need to pay to your carrier for local calls. Hence, the local leg is usually left to the consumer. The rates mentioned are for the international leg. Fortunately or unfortunately, this is the industry practice...

Which option is easier depends on your criteria...both would take approximately the same amount of time. They might differ in terms of the charges...so that should be criteria. Find out from your bank how much do they charge for international transfers and then you can make an educated decision.

I am not entirely sure about that, it depends on where you are calling from. If you are calling from within the US (or if you are using one of the free USA calling methods discussed on the site), the rates are no different that what you could pay if you would call any other USA number. There are no additional charges here. I would request you check with your cellular service provider...
