Our desire to be accepted (in society) often creates a "herd-like" mentality where design becomes a potential risk to that acceptance; therefore, our willingness to design is directly related to the level of risk.

2. Our amplified fear of failure.

3. Our underdeveloped view of success.

4. Lack of (sufficient) faith.

5. Pre-designed lives (by our peers, colleagues and family) give the illusion that they are easier to maintain than anything we could come up with ourselves.

6. Lack of encouragement, starting with ourselves.

Re: The Foreign Exchange at Numbers, Houston TX | Sept 19, 2010

there is a God.

Re: New Coultrain: *GodMustBeABoogieMan*

Feeling the tribal vibe of this one.

Re: SLE Soundscape Radio! A new voter would log onto to this site and create this pressure to select something (or go research a blog in the midst of nominating) based on the extensive nomination list. I don't feel the solution is to eliminate categories but point out (in a bolder voice) that you don't have to nominate or vote for everything. If should be a way to craft a message that this (process) is a) to explore the possibilities and gifts of other bloggers [which is the purpose of BWAs] and b) not intended to strongarm you into voting for blogs in which you are not comfortable.

Re: http://blog.maikeruon.com/post/699594188

Honestly, I was looking for your comment(s) on his post and perhaps a "healthy" debate -- now I see why that didn't happen (i.e., your comment was screened #FAIL). It would have been cool to see your comments there, but I digress.

I just went back to Phil's site where someone shared their experience with CP vs. WC+IB and why they switched to the latter. Phil responded pretty defensively *shrug*

Where's the "fun" in all this? :P

Nevertheless, I am a WC+IB user and your vimeo tutorials have been tremendously helpful. I can't wait for my webcomic to launch next week (6/21). I contend that it's about what works for you as a creator > having a virtual pissing contest over who's "better."

Don't mean to fan the flames -- just wanted to get a better understanding. It seems the wise thing to do is focus on making a great webcomic and connect with some cool creators/readers. Cheers!

Re: I Won an Award. Now What?

I wouldn't be able to call myself an "award-winning podcaster" (on my Twitter profile) if it weren't for the BWAs. It lends a vibe of prestige, but more importantly it's nice to be recognized by your peers. Does it give you a boost? I think the hits increase during award season as a direct result of the exposure/awareness and there are some residual subscribers who stick around afterwards. As the web becomes more savvy and people compete for "rockstar" status, I think web awards will become more prestigious.

Re: A Marriage Formula for Black Women

Anjuan, this is the most comprehensive and pragmatic approach to what is our most personal lifestyle choice: marriage. Your formula gives women an inside peek at how basic our psyche truly is when it comes to finding a life partner. While there are some preferences that may vary (e.g., how a man defines attractiveness, tolerance level of attitude, etc.), the overall "formula" is very much on point.

The only challenge I see is how can we help brothers become the type of men who can honestly use this formula? A lot of the concerns I've heard in the past is that the availability of men who "have it together" is slim. Although I know quite a few men who fit the bill, I think the major obstacle between black men and women (and the subject of marriage in the middle) is the lack of conversations that this post evokes.

Not a "Nightline" conversation, but serious in-house conversations where transparency, honesty and openness abound. I'm also married to a black woman, so we've done our part, right? LOL Nah, we have to continue to exchange knowledge until the challenge of marriageability (for both men and women) is properly addressed.

This post is a fantastic start. Cheers.
