If Westlands Water District is not suitable for farming then why is it the most productive and water effecient in the state? We have some of the most fertile soil in the world.

The COURTS have said the goverment is responsible for the clean up!

I wonder how many smelt are killed everyday be Stripped Bass that are planted by our goverment. Yet the farmers go without water to help the smelt. Where is the logic? The eco-nazis are out of touch with reality.

When the Endanger Species Act has a choke hold on your water supply and you have no water, how are you going to recycle it? How do you solve the real problems? It can only help if you can get the water in the first place. We are now up to 48% of the water supply dedicated to environmental uses. More of the water supply is being taken from human uses and the deference is not being made up. We are unnecessarily killing farms and jobs to save fish and it is time to turn it around.

We need dams to capture water during wet years to get us by when we have below average rainfall years. On this dry year, Northern CA still recieved 95% of their average rainfall. We just need to capture it.

Desal has some serious environmental impacts and needs a lot of power. So, good luck with that.

The export pumps that bring water to Southern Ca are being used as a scapegoat by Envi's whose agenda is to use the courts and the ESA to take control of the states water resources. They want to "dry out" the people and control state. So far it is working for them, but it's time to turn it around and give the people back their water. The environment already gets 48% of the entire water supply but, they want it all!

There's a lot of hypocrisy in the debate, especially from environmentalists who want to protect the sensitive Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta by limiting the pumping of agricultural water. Yet we don't hear a peep out of them when Sacramento dumps treated sewage into the Delta.

The way I see it is that they are stealing export water that farms and metro areas would normally get to flush out the Delta. A Delta that has been turned into a giant toilet! Easier to blame us farmers and So Cal, then take our water to clean up their sewage wastewater problem $$$.

Then there is the fact that over the last 20 years $ billions have been spent on Central Valley “fishery enhancement programs”, delta export water supplies have been RADICALLY REDUCED, but there have been no increases in fish populations. Pumping export water is not the problem. If it was going to help it would have done so by now.

It is time to end the RIDICULOUS OPPRESSIVE ENVIRONMENTAL PUMPING RESTRICTIONS!!!

Calsport likes twisting the numbers. They hate farmers and Metro areas that get water from the Delta. They are against ANY AN ALL possible solutions. Look at their website. They are against everything!!! Except fish and keeping all the water to themselves.

Name one BALANCED solution Calsport is in favor of!!! I bet you can't do it.

You know very well why all of Fresno Co farm payroll is up. You're including water districts with full water allotments. Try only WEST Fresno Co. Now what #'s do you come up with??!!!

Why don't you guys go after some of the real problems in the delta? 20 years of pumping restrictions without any benefit is ridiculous and wasteful. There is water in the system, but you would rather see it go out to the OCEAN then have anyone south of the delta utilize it.

The delta fish are living in a giant toilet and you have to STEAL other people's water to flush it out. That is what is really about!!!

Why doesn't anyone care about delta pollution? I am baffled? Instead lets try to get a million boats on it and exacerbate the pollution problem. That's real eco friendly.

Crops are NOT all sent overseas. Some portion maybe. Pretty much all crops in US are sold for cash. We are not 3rd world!!! We don't trade for donkeys.

It is not our fault fishing boats are stuck in dock. You radical Northerners over fished and polluted up the delta. Now your are stealing our water to FLUSH it out!!!

You call us plenty of names. "BIG AG" "Big corporate ag" and label as "greedy". We are not all Boswell's or Resnik's. There are plenty of small and medium size family farmer in westlands

Calsports water hierarchy:
Senior water rights holders read (delta folks)
delta smelt
long fin smelt
salmon
sturgeon
orcas
the ocean
then if there is any left over, any other human interests south of the delta.
Make no mistake, Calsport does NOT want San Diego to get ANY water from the delta.

Trust me, that these guys (calsport) hate metro areas south of the delta getting any water just as much as they hate us farmers south of the delta getting any water. They believe that water that falls in the North belongs to Northern California. It doesn't, it belongs to all of California. They would much rather send it to the ocean than send it to you. They are against any all balanced solutions. They HATE us Farmers and they HATE you too San Diego!!!

Maybe you are the one that is "ignoring the plight of wildlife" by only concetrating on water exports you are missing the real problems in the Delta! Ammonia! kills fish!!! You can't have healthy fisheries with all the sewage wastewater being dumped in the Delta.

The fact is, farmers sympathize with the plight of the fishermen as they are in the same waterless boat. The real issue is the wacky ENV's want to control ALL of our water and thus reduce human population. They want wildlife in ALL of California, not people. Watch as they fight every solution to Smelt problem as the well being of fish is not their main goal. THEY WANT ALL OF OUR WATER RIGHTS! The ESA is a perfect vehicle to ride through the courts and achieve this. The ESA is what puts fish over people. @myearth: If agriculture is "The other winner is big agriculture, which has the money to pay off politicians to get what they want" Why is it that Congress is sending our water to the ocean!!! Sure demonize agriculture but there are many things going on in the Delta that don't have anything to do with exporting water to the south or over fishing. One big factor alone is, 260 invasive, or nonnative, species – some that prey directly on the Delta smelt and others that voraciously consume its food source – have proliferated in the Delta for several decades. Yet Farmers are being punished by Congress and by Ecotopians!!! How can you live in harmony with 260 invasive species???
