Businesses make an average of $2 in revenue for every $1 they spend on Google Ads.

I don't dispute the data, but I find that reward on spend to be pitifully low. I would hope businesses could spend a dollar and earn $50 or even 100 times that. We have gone from getting lots of traffic organically, to having to pay, to having to pay through the teeth. Google has really ramped up their income over the last 15 years.

Re: Loving Them, And Letting Them Grow

Well said. Great title Jay.

My perspective is from working in the website / marketing space in Boston, providing services to move websites from HubSpot to WordPress (talking with business owners who are leaving HubSpot), and having many friends that are current or former HubSpotters.

I have heard story after story of HubSpot cold calling business owners, discussing marketing automation, offering demos, trying to book meetings and so forth. So, anyone that thinks that HubSpot's practice of marketing never involves an outbound call is dead wrong. They have beaten the bushes from day 1 with "outbound" marketing. Maybe they would not have gotten where they are without it.

Re: My blog is a selfie

Does this explain why you don't mind having links on your site to posts with titles like "12 Celebrities You Didn't Know Were Asain" and "French Kissing: How to Do It the Right Way"?

Re:

My most traffic post ever was first published on someone else's site and then later on my site. Never had a problem. But that was the only post that was duplicate out of maybe 50+ posts. Google started the trend against duplicate content. Stealing content is not cool. Your situation is strangely unique. Sorry for your troubles.

Re: 9 Ways to Improve the Impact of Your Email – The Works

I send out emails, but I don't send out email newsletters. I generally "withdraw" my funds from PayPal right away. It makes the book keeping simpler for me. I appreciate the advice to withdraw, but I wonder if PayPal could not only freeze my money in PayPal or charge a penalty and take money from my PayPal account, but could they also dip into my bank account to do the same? Does this make the withdrawal less of a safety step?

Re: Google Reader – An Update on Google’s Update

Thanks for the summary and a solution. I have watched for over four years as others created businesses or at least streams of income around Twitter. Here I see you jumping out in front of the wave (no pun intended) and setting up a kind of "first mover advantage" with the latest social platform. Great idea, even if Paul Tassi over at Forbes thinks Google+ is dead for him.
