This is a lovely and motivating story, just in time. Thank you!

Re: Concern Troll - Health Weight Trolling Online

Any reason why you share your workout (great) and healthy breakfast and lunch (excellent) BUT not your medical record - facts that can shut people up in one sentence, to get across the point that you are indeed healthy (as per professional diagnosis) regardless of how people judge you based on your photo? Just curious.

Re: Should Startups Blog?

100% agree with your analysis - it is about what gets your startup noticed/grow, etc, as opposed to seeing blogging (or social media as a whole) as the must-do. It is this stepping-back thinking and planning that optimize the impact of limited resources!

Re: How To Turn ADD/ADHD Into a Super Power

Dan, thanks for your quick reply. I don't think the original post conveys your points above. People - many people - do argue that kids are being over-ADHD/ADD medicated as a form of lazy parenting/quick solution/lack of self-management. A hot topic in fact.

I am in total agreement that the stigma of mental illness needs to be addressed. The brain is an organ and must be treated as such. I have been openly discussing about my own issues (depression, OCD, ED, etc...all goes hand in hand) for more than a decade. Like you, I totally love my condition because it has offered me a unique opportunity to be introspective, to forever learn and improve, to embrace the challenges and turn it into a superpower. It is fascinating. And, yes, all achievements come with an extra dose of pride.

Re: How To Turn ADD/ADHD Into a Super Power

Good description.

Re: How To Turn ADD/ADHD Into a Super Power

Interesting that you think medication stifles these benefits. With the right medication, I actually see a HUGE breakthrough in the ability to finally utilize these superpower. Also curious to hear about your thoughts/experience re other "mental falabilities".

Re: How To Turn ADD/ADHD Into a Super Power

I respect your personal experience and successful solution. And Dan, we have spoken and I hope you
understand I have high respect for you as a leader in the startup field. However, please, your specific ADHD/ADD and your specific medication does not speak for all ADHD cases. You may be misdiagnosed, the drugs may not be the right ones, you may be at the wrong dosage....there can be so many factors that
contribute to your own conclusion that "there's a huge disconnect between medication and treatment". In fact, no human bodies are the same.

Medication is NOT a"quick solution to deal with ADHD". I am speaking as a very experienced parent who deals with not one but two cases of ADHD, and have established a successful ecosystem with all levels of professionals from school teachers to doctors to karate senseis.

In fact, here's my no sugar-coated feedback: to say medication is a quick solution is an absolute insult
to parents who follow professional medical treatment (as part but not the entire management) for their children.

My 10-year-old can tell me how he feels and how much better he can function with the right medication.
And, like you, he too has his own bullet points of self-management techniques – and he is only 10. He even teaches his little brother some practice. It is not a grown-up epiphany.

In addition, from whatI have read, your condition is a subgroup that combines attention deficit and
hyperactivity. There is a third element - impulsivity - that is not in the name
but is the third aspect of ADHD (and can be combined with any of the other 2
sub conditions). Also note that genetics has a big role as well - this is not a guess but a proven fact.

My husband and I do NOT see ADHD as a deficit either. We see, as you do, because our children are gifted and are intellectually a few years ahead of their peers. It is a condition that has pros and conso and with recognition we can build up and leverage the unique strengths.

For those who disagree with me, I would repeat the same thing = every case is different and its up to you to seek professional (and other) guidance to suit your own needs. I would not diss an adult who manages using
your 3 suggested points, and I hope you would not dismiss others' choice of medication PLUS self-management/self-enhancement (that are along the same line as your 3 points).

Re: Solitude, Fear and My Battle Against Depression

I left this on facebook and think I can repeat here.

Justin Kozuch - had I known, we would have had a lovely talk. I have been very open about my depression - diagnosed in 1997. My symptoms are text-book, mainly extreme fatigue, mood up/down, difficulty focusing, but never suicidal. My biochemical imbalance means I am on anti-depressant for life, even during pregnancies, childbirths and breastfeeding. I ENJOY knowing this part of me. I take pride on achieving professionally and personally despite a "sub standard" start point. Though I have not blogged or written about it, almost everyone who's talked with me in person - socially or professionally - may have known my story if even the chance. You life is enriched because of your knowledge and management of the condition. I am odd? Maybe, but I am a happy, optimistic, progressive and social depressive woman

Re: Introducing RocketScope

Super!!!!!!
